    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Emergency Room Physician is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered emergency medical care in a small, CMS-certified emergency department. This role focuses on rapid assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of patients presenting with acute illness or injury while ensuring compliance with CMS regulations and hospital policies.

    Position Highlights

    • Patient Volume & Acuity: 10–12 patients per 24-hour day (low volume, lower-acuity setting with minimal transfers)
    • Shift Structure : 12-hour shifts with the flexibility to extend to 24-hour shifts when desired (allowing more consecutive days off)
    • Team Support : Collaborative environment with experienced nursing staff and APP support; hospitalist handles all inpatient/observation cases

    Key Responsibilities

    • Direct Patient Care: Provide emergency medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and stabilization for patients of all ages presenting with acute and urgent conditions.
    • Triage & Prioritization: Rapidly assess patient acuity and prioritize care in a low-volume, high-variability setting.
    • Procedures: Perform emergency procedures including but not limited to airway management, intubation, suturing, splinting, central line placement, and cardiac resuscitation.
    • Stabilization & Transfer: Stabilize patients requiring higher levels of care and coordinate safe and timely admissions or transfers to appropriate facilities in accordance with EMTALA and CMS guidelines.
    • Documentation: Accurately document all patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR) in compliance with CMS, billing, and regulatory standards.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with nursing staff, ancillary services, hospitalists, EMS, and consulting providers to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Quality & Compliance: Adhere to hospital By-Laws, Policy and Procedures, CMS Conditions of Participation, EMTALA regulations, and quality standards.
    • Emergency Preparedness: Participate in emergency preparedness activities and respond to disasters or mass casualty incidents as required.
    • On-Call / Coverage: Provide coverage as scheduled, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required for a 24/7 emergency department.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Education

    • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

    Experience

    • Preferred: Experience in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine with ER experience
    • Experience in a acute hospital setting preferred

    Requirements

    • Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Emergency Medicine (EM-trained preferred; IM/FM with emergency experience considered for our freestanding-style model). For physicians who are not board certified in Emergency Medicine, ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications are required; ATLS is preferred.
    • Active unrestricted Texas medical license is required
    • Passion for high-quality, patient-centered care in a close-knit team environment

    Computer Skills

    • Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer applications

    • Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods (up to 12-hour shifts)
