    General Description: Thrive Youth Center, a homeless shelter for LGBTQIA+ young adults ages 18-24, is seeking a Full Time Shelter Resident Advisor. The primary responsibility of the Shelter Resident Advisor is to ensure the safety and security of the youth and shelter facilities. Adherence to established guidelines and procedures is vital in this role. This position also serves as a mentor, confidant, and resource person for the youth. This person serves as a critical link between the client, case manager, and supportive services team to ensure youth-directed housing stability is achieved during program enrollment. The Shelter Resident Advisor is also to perform daily, consistent, and effective crisis intervention providing information to appropriate staff and partners regarding client’s mental and physical well-being to ensure appropriate services are provided.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Interacts with and provides guidance and assistance to youth residing in the emergency shelter

    Informs and reinforces clients of shelter program requirements and guidelines

    Reinforces client-driven case plan that identifies both short-term and long-term goals

    Monitors progress towards youth identified goals

    Provides written warnings with consequences if infractions occur

    Conducts bed checks to ensure curfew is respected

    Provides opportunities for one-on-one decompression & de-escalation conversations with youth

    Creates an environment that is conducive to shared living space and respect for residents

    Ensures a safe space exists overnights for youth who experience PTSD, insomnia, or related issues, including behavioral or mental health conditions

    Mediates resident conflict and/or staff conflict

    Responds to emergency and crisis situations

    Assists youth in identifying barriers that may contribute to homelessness and support discussion in case management & life skills sessions

    Encourages youth to participate in mental health and wellness activities

    Maintains knowledge of program services, activities, resources

    Maintains timely and accurate documentation and case notes regarding youth activities in HMIS

    Assist case managers and life skills manager in youth adherence to prescribed medications

    Confirm with youth any appointments scheduled on their behalf

    Responsible for adhering to all policy and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other departmental procedure manuals

    Other Duties:

    Able to have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice and maintain current registration & liability insurance

    Be available and willing to transport clients to various appointments and/or events (documented mileage reimbursed)

    Have a clear criminal background check

    Must have use of a cell phone

    Assist in aftercare case management for youth that may obtain offsite housing

    At times, participate in activities outside of regular responsibilities

    Education

    Preferred:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work / Psychology or a related field or work related experience.

    Experience

    Required:

    Two years of experience in case management services within community programs serving youth, at-risk young adults, and/or homeless individuals

    Knowledge of community resources for at-risk individuals to include homelessness, LGBTQ+ and others

    Knowledge of trauma-informed care

    Preferred:

    CPR & BLS Certification

    Knowledge of HMIS

    Passion for the LGBTQ+ community and diverse populations

    Interest in training opportunities

    Flexibility with regard to employment responsibilities, duties, activities, and hours scheduled
