This temporary role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping job seekers navigate today’s employment landscape with empathy and professionalism.

Title: Workforce Development Technician (Public Career Services Center-Job Seeker Assistant)

Location: City of Norfolk, VA
Payrate: $18 per hour

Part-time (28 hours/week)
Monday–Thursday only - No Fridays

8:30 AM – 4:00 PM OR 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

3 Month Assignment (Potential for Full-Time Hire with Application)

In this position, you will support individuals from diverse backgrounds as they explore employment opportunities. You’ll help ensure welcoming and efficient experience for job seekers using the City’s employment resources.

Responsibilities

• Assist job seekers by explaining available services and guiding them through employment-related processes.
• Provide professional, empathetic support to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain accurate documentation and clear communication.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure quality delivery of services.
• Offer general program and participant support as needed.
• Assist with job fairs and community events.

Qualifications

• Strong listening skills and a genuine desire to help others.
• Experience in employment services, teaching, HR, customer service, or other people-centered roles.
• Ability to clearly communicate information and advocate for job seekers.
• Familiarity with current job-search practices.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems.
