    Job Description

    ABOUT EMPOWER WORK

Empower Work is an earlier-stage, national nonprofit on a mission to create healthy, equitable workplaces where employees are valued, supported, and empowered. We believe that when people thrive at work, communities, companies, the economy, and our democracy, thrive. To reach that, we need to dramatically shift cultural norms and expectations within workplaces. And we need to radically transform how we support people at critical, opportunity-altering moments.

Our approach fuels positive change in three key ways:

    1. Our text line provides immediate, confidential support for under-represented and under-resourced workers, with emotional and economic outcomes that keep them on an opportunity pathway,

    2. Our trained peer counselors utilize their training and skill development on the line and in thousands of U.S. workplaces, and

    3. Aggregated, anonymous data and storytelling from the text line conversations can inform new approaches, tools, trainings, and policies and change narrative norms for systemic workplace change.

This role is a unique opportunity to be part of building the culture, voice, and vision for volunteers and training, as well as setting the stage for the growth of the organization to help us reach 3M vulnerable workers in the coming 5 years. Of those we support, 56% identify as a person of color, 78% identify as women, and 40% identify as lower income. We hear 'the only' a lot from those we support.

You’ll join a small, nimble, collaborative, creative, and independent team as well as a community of driven, accomplished professionals who are passionate about making workplaces across the U.S. healthy, equitable environments, rich in opportunity for everyone.

LOCATION: Remote (ideally ET or CT timezone)

    TIME: Part-time (50% or 20 hours a week)

    SALARY: $21,000-22,500 annually

This is a salaried, part-time, remote position, flexible to an individual’s schedule within our text line hours. There is a possibility of growing in commitment over time. This position reports to the Training Director.

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER AND TRAINING COORDINATOR ROLE

The Volunteer & Training Coordinator is an integral member of the team supporting the success of our volunteers. This role handles the administrative load of running the volunteer program and develops volunteers’ coaching skills.

THIS ROLE HAS THREE PRIMARY COMPONENTS:

    1. Volunteer management,

    2. Training program support, and

    3. “Backstopping” volunteer peer counselors on our text line.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

We strive to create an engaging, positive, and inclusive volunteer opportunity, allowing our volunteers to both give back and develop new skills. To support that, this role will focus on three key areas:

    VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT

    • Manage communications to volunteers in training

    • Oversee volunteer engagement program & activities including fun, informative weekly volunteer newsletter

    • Track volunteer status and respond to  volunteer requests

    TRAINING PROGRAM SUPPORT

    • Maintain and update training program materials as needed, in partnership with Training Director

    • Respond to, navigate, and/or escalate training feedback

    • Review and score practice conversations, and provide actionable feedback

    • Facilitate group practice sessions as needed

    ON-THE-LINE PEER COUNSELOR SUPPORT

    • Provide live coaching and logistical support to volunteers, helping them seamlessly support vulnerable workers and build their coaching/counseling skills

YOU’LL THRIVE AS A VOLUNTEER & TRAINING COORDINATOR IF...

    • You have EXPERIENCE AS A COACH, SOCIAL WORKER, AND/OR COUNSELOR, and you want to utilize and grow those skills. Formal certification is not important. You integrate the principles and skills of coaching and empowering others into everything you do.

    • You have 2+ years of work experience in coaching, social work, counseling, training, customer support, management, or related fields.

    • You are comfortable with both administrative tasks that require attention to detail and coaching and helping others learn.

    • You are an eager and brave learner comfortable trying new things in service of continuous learning, improvement, and innovation.

    • You find joy in collaborating and helping others, and aren't shy about asking for help when needed.

    • You enjoy variety and adapting within growing, distributed organizational environments where we swap hats in service of the mission.

    • You’re proactive and do the work, as well as offer your own perspective to do things better (we love ideas!).

    • You are a self-aware and conscientious communicator.

_Hiring, supporting, and empowering a diverse, inclusive, collaborative team is at the core of our mission. We strongly encourage people of color, first-generation Americans, first in their family to pursue higher education or join a new industry, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and women to apply.   _

_Empower Work is an equal opportunity employer. This means all qualified applicants will receive consideration and will not be discriminated against people because of race, ethnicity, sex, age, religion, national origin, marital status, pregnancy, personal appearance, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, family responsibilities, or political affiliation. _

Ready to apply? If you share our values and our enthusiasm for empowering people to thrive at work, we’d love to review your application! Instead of a cover letter, we ask you to submit your resume and answer three questions to share a bit more about you.

Note: You'll need valid U.S. work authorization to join us.
