    Job Description

We're hiring Culinary Instructors throughout the 5 boroughs! Wellness in the Schools (WITS) is looking for passionate Culinary Instructors to join our mission to feed kids real food. WITS Chefs, trained culinary graduates, work with schools to transform the cafeteria menu, train school staff, and provide nutrition education to students. Our daily goal is for students to return to class after lunch and recess ready to focus and learn. Our long-term goal is to teach children healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We believe that a healthy child starts with healthy, delicious food. By feeding kids real food and teaching them about the food they are eating, they develop an interest in and desire for more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. They also learn to identify ingredients of concern in food and the importance of limiting added sugars, saturated fats, and salt. Instead of the heavily processed foods that typically dominate school cafeterias around the country, our goal is to incorporate more scratch cooking into kids' lunches so that they may enjoy real ingredients and real flavors. As a WITS Culinary Instructor, you will: * Train school kitchen staff on new menu items, kitchen techniques and the why behind WITS's work * Support evaluation of the program. * Make a positive impact on our communities, children and schools! What's in it for you: * Pay: $32/hr * Part-time, hourly role (25 hours/week), based on the school year calendar. * Start date: August, 2023, 5 hours per day M-F (8am - 1pm). Weekends, holidays and summers off. * Paid training will be provided. * Paid sick time. * Transportation allowance $127 monthly Role Requirements: * Hire may be contingent upon cleared background/fingerprint check through Department of Education. * Culinary school graduate or equivalent in experience. * Must be able to travel to school locations assigned in your borough. * Must handle all types of food and ingredients. * Strong interpersonal skills (necessary for working cooperatively with school cooks, school personnel, parents, and other partnering organizations). * Excellent organizational and communication skills. * Passion for the WITS mission. Physical Requirements: * Requires lifting up to 50 pounds. * Requires standing for up to 5 hours per day. WITS provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender, national origin, age, disability or genetics. In addition to federal law requirements, WITS complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location in which it operates.
