    Job Description

    EnPower is seeking a Field Applications Engineer for our high-energy, high-power Li-ion batteries, initially targeted for electric mobility applications. The Applications Engineer will work alongside both Product Engineering and Sales organizations. He or she will be engaged with the Engineering organization during product development to learn and understand the battery system and will also provide relevant feedback on customer/industry use to influence new product design. The ideal candidate is involved alongside of the whole product development life cycle from concept to production. The Applications Engineering function at EnPower is technical, customer-facing and deeply involved in the customer relationship from pre-sales, through design, customization, and ongoing support. The ideal candidate has work experience with battery manufacturing, validation, pack/module design, or other downstream processes. He or she will have a great understanding of the critical parameters of the cell to meet pack requirements and will drive the product requirements document, testing, and troubleshooting to develop superior solutions for EnPower’s customers. Battery experience is required. The ideal candidate is also comfortable communicating and collaborating closely with customers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop deep product expertise with EnPower’s Li-ion battery technology and apply it to help solve our customers’ most challenging battery engineering problems.

    • Develop and maintain customer-facing documentation, including specifications and application notes. 

    • Coordinate activities with engineering and other teams to respond to customer inquiries and issues.

    • Technically lead the evaluation of feasibility and technical inputs of customers. 

    • Serve as the technical voice of the customer. Use identified customer needs to drive the product requirements document and contribute to product development including product roadmap, feature planning, documentation, internal knowledge base, and testing and validation. 

    • Assist Engineering, Manufacturing and QC departments with testing, to ensure that products meet the customer expectations, within the agreed deadlines.

    • Supervise the battery design, development and tests required for customer specific battery solutions.

    • Define cell test plans with the customer and collect, organize, process, and analyze large quantities of Vehicle/Battery/cell test data to evaluate performance. 

    • Contribute to internal R&D projects and blog posts to establish EnPower’s thought leadership in battery engineering.

    • Support the marketing and sales team in generating technical material for product introductions and demonstrations.

    • Travel up to 10% -25% of the time

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering. 

    • 5-8 years of experience in battery testing/validation and pack/module design or qualification required.

    • At least 1-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role in the field of Lithium-Ion Battery Systems.

    • In-depth understanding of Li-ion battery pack design, thermal management, and balancing systems (BMS)

    • Understanding of Battery System standards, compliance testing, and qualification.

    • Good knowledge of interaction of mechanical, electrical and software components in complex products.

    • Superior creative problem solving and general troubleshooting capability. 

    • Strong interpersonal skills required.

    • Strong written and oral communication skills. 

    • Proven ability to collaborate and communicate with both technical and non-technical teams. 

    • Strong organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple incoming requests and drive initiatives to their successful completion. 

    • Experience in working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

    • Desire and ability to thrive in a rapid-paced startup environment.
