    JOB SUMMARY

    The GIS Solutions Architect is accountable for proactively and holistically leading and supporting all Geographical Information System (GIS) initiatives. The focus of the role is to craft solutions that guide the developing direction for a portfolio of solutions in response to turbulent forces and driving achievement-targeted business outcomes. Solutions include systems (i.e., applications, technologies, processes, and information), shared infrastructure services, and shared application services.

     

    JOB DUTIES

    • Understands business drivers as well as future and current state business capabilities to determine corresponding GIS system designs and change requirements to GIS technologies to ensure business needs are met.
    • Provides technical expertise in the use of geospatial systems relating to databases, system architecture, and integrations with enterprise systems.
    • Defines scalable architectures that incorporate numerous sophisticated integrations based on technologies such as GIS, Web Services, Data Replication, etc.
    • Develops and reviews requirements and recommends hardware and software configurations.
    • Performs software and hardware planning, licensing, troubleshooting, upgrades, and maintenance.
    • Writes clear documentation of procedures and technical materials.
    • Ensures the server environment and software are up to date and secure.
    • Engages with internal and external users regarding design and troubleshooting of issues.
    • Explains technical issues and solutions to a variety of audiences.
    • Suggests and explores new tools to improve processes.
    • Provides technical leadership to drive solutions and support communication with other projects.
    • Develops, trains, and mentors junior technical staff.
    • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders

     

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
    • Minimum seven (7) years of meaningful professional experience in at least two GIS solution development disciplines, including architecting, implementing, and administrating enterprise IT-GIS solutions/systems that leverage the ArcGIS enterprise platform (Desktop, Server, Online). or equivalent combination of education and experience

     

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    • Expertise with Esri APIs, MS SQL Server, Esri Enterprise Geodatabase, Distributed Geodatabase Design, Window Server, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, FME
    • Platform architecture, solution design, project envisioning, planning, developing, deployment, security
    • Microsoft SQL
    • Programming and scripting experience with Python, SQL, JavaScript
    • Web Server administration, management, configuration
    • Version control system management
    • Knowledge of geospatial and mapping concepts such as spatial analysis, map projections, etc.
    • Experience with current technology implementation patterns including service-oriented architectures and cloud hybrid configurations
    • Positive Train Control (PTC)
    • Five (5) years of FME development
    • Creating, publishing, managing map services

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    This position has a regular full-time schedule with a normal workweek of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.

    This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.
