Job Description
Energy GPS seeks a dedicated, experienced professional to contribute to the company’s market data analysis efforts. The employee will extract/integrate data from our state-of-the art energy data warehouse, develop models, and analyze wholesale electricity and natural gas markets. The Data Analyst will work collaboratively with other analysts and senior members of our staff to develop and deliver accurate, insightful, and actionable information for our clients. This position operates out of our headquarters in Portland, Oregon.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Develop and modify queries to extract data from database
o Develop and modify SQL code to extract data from database into Excel, Tableau, and other applications.
o Understand SQL data tables and structure to efficiently extract data and integrate multiple datasets.
o Identify, evaluate, and resolve data quality issues.
o Create data visualizations and develop insights
o Transform data into graphics that identify and reveal analytical insights.
o Tell the analytical story through easily understood graphs, tables, and images.
o Communicate results to Energy GPS team and clients verbally and in writing.
o Develop and maintain energy market models
o Use Python and/or Excel to develop and run models to find solutions to energy market problems.
o Use statistical concepts in the implementation of models (e.g. time series or regression-based analysis).
o Develop models that are flexible, efficient, well commented, and shared with others within the organization.
o General research and write newsletters, reports, and other analyses
o Draft reports that are relevant to assigned projects.
o Perform general research as directed by Energy GPS management.
o Document findings, keeping accurate and complete records to support replication or future research.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
o Bachelor’s degree in quantitative or critical thinking major with computer science/math emphasis
o 1-2 years of related experience

o Experience in Excel, preferably including VBA.
o Knowledge of SQL, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
o Experience with Python, R, or other data analysis focused language.
o Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
o Ability to use keyboard with repetitive hand movements.
