    Position Title: Sr. Product Engineer

    Shift: Monday – Friday; 8 – 4:30 pm or 8:30 – 5:00 pm; flexible

    Summary – basic function of the role

    This individual is the engineering bridge between the conceptual innovation process and the official start of the new product development program. They will need to understand the high-level customer needs and problems to be solved, research existing bodies of knowledge, identify the technical gaps and hurdles to overcome, design and evaluate multiple hydraulic and mechanical architectures and utilize data driven decision making to select the optimum architecture. Once feasibility is demonstrated, this individual will transition the architecture to the new product development execution team for detailed design and implementation.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Work with the innovation team to develop novel hydraulic and mechanical system architectures alternatives that satisfy marketing requirements and demonstrate technical feasibility
    • Analyze competitive product, current Enerpac designs and adjacent industry approaches to design solutions to understand multiple approaches to engineering execution
    • Generate multiple distinctly creative design approaches to architectural designs
    • Exercise advanced analytical and predictive techniques to assess feasibility of hydraulic and mechanical systems quickly without the need for physical prototypes
    • Utilize data driven decision making processes to recommend the optimum architecture that balances all key project requirements
    • Coordinate translation of marketing requirements into engineering requirements
    • Effectively transition system architecture to product delivery team for full sub-system design, validation, and implementation
    • Continuously advance the state of technology in Enerpac products, materials, and systems
    • Effectively collaborate in a team environment and gather information for projects and facilitate meetings
    • Analyze and evaluate test data, prepare recommendations, and participate in consultations to evaluate and determine design values, feasibility of manufacture and other pertinent considerations.
    • Supervises the preparation of drawings and production of prototypes meeting the standards set by sound engineering principles, project goals and company needs.
    • Consults with Manufacturing Engineering to understand the most efficient methods of manufacture and assembly
    • Establishes, coordinates, and maintains project programs to meet timetable parameters.
    • Assists in establishing and/or upgrading internal engineering standards and practices. May assist in planning the allocation of resources

    Skills and Competencies.

    • Demonstrated ability to explore creative engineering architectural alternatives and optimize design selection when many requirements and details are not yet solidified.
    • Ability to comprehend a wide variety of requirements and correctly select the highest priority for demonstrating feasibility
    • Broad knowledge of multiple materials and manufacturing processes, (casting, forging, stamping, plastic molding, additive)
    • Knowledge of electromechanical controls / PLC is a plus
    • Expertise in Hydraulic and mechanical systems design. Understanding and experience with micro-hydraulics is a plus.
    • Experience with Creo parametric modeling and drawing software or equivalent
    • Functional knowledge of analytical and simulation methods like Ansys, Creo Simulate, and/or LMS Amesim to rapidly evaluate potential mechanical and hydraulic design options
    • Capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the broad areas of assignment.
    • Must be an effective communicator with all levels of personnel.
    • Must also have demonstrated mature creative ability and good business and engineering decision making skills
    • Must be able to communicate verbally and electronically with global team members and leaders of supported organizations.
    • Must be able to hear/understand/speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.
    • Must be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including the ability to travel by air/auto to remote sites.
    • Must be able to work in front of a personal computer for long periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight.

    Education Requirements:

    Must have a BS in Engineering.

    Post graduate work a plus.

    Experience Requirements:

    Seven to ten years of broad engineering experience

    Physical Demands

    Employee may have to lift and/or move equipment up to 40 pounds in weight. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee may be sitting or standing for long periods of time. Some travel may be required.

    Work Environment

    Employee’s work environment is a typical Engineering lab and office environment, it may include typical warehouse environment on occasion. The warehouse location is subject to loud noise, various temperatures, and workplace hazards. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Basic PPE is required during work hours where access to the warehouse is needed, safety glasses, gloves, and steel toe boots.
