    POSITION TITLE: PURCHASING MANAGER

    SHIFT: Monday – Friday; 8 – 4:30 pm or 8:30 – 5:00 pm; flexible

    SUMMARY – BASIC FUNCTION OF THE ROLE

     

     

    Plan, direct, or coordinate the activities of buyers, purchasing officers, and related workers involved in purchasing materials, products, and services. Includes wholesale or retail trade merchandising managers and procurement managers. Additionally, as a vital role in meeting production goals, working with suppliers to achieve timely deliveries of components and finished goods from suppliers. A key measure of success is year over year improvement in supplier performance including QCLDM (Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management). 

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct inventory analysis and management to meet established Business goals.
    • Coordinate with internal planners and external suppliers to manage daily release of purchased materials.
    • Monitor and communicate supplier performance for QCLDM (Quality, Cost Logistics, Development, and Management.
    • Work with supplier quality engineers and buyers for timely disposition and corrective actions for non-conforming purchased materials.
    • Provide product availability information and assurance of supply analysis to Customer Service Representatives and Team Leads.
    • Maintain accuracy of all ERP data fields.
    • Know and understand the various transactions and their mutual dependency within the ERP system.
    • Use reporting, planning resources, and other applications to make his/her own work easier and structured.
    • Look for new functionalities and applications that make his/her own work easier or that of his / her colleagues.
    • Exhibit a positive, collaborative attitude when working with the organization and suppliers.
    • Proactively identify the needs and set expectations of internal customers and stakeholders.
    • Establish good contact with internal customers and stakeholders and maintain good relationships with them.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities that will have the greatest business impact
    • Take comprehensive action to address internal customer and stakeholder concerns / complaints

     SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

    • A clear understanding of the relevance of supply chain concepts and how they can be used in identifying cost reduction opportunities.
    • Familiar with TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) in that purchase cost is not only composed of price but also administrative cost, inventory cost, and product life cycle related cost.
    • Integrate pull system methodology into the supply base.
    • Provide reporting and data flow per required schedule.
    • Retain job proficiencies through ongoing education and training.
    • Supply base management through quality assessments and visits.
    • Identify & facilitate change and promote multiple on-going communications with all disciplines of the business.
    • Use of Microsoft Office applications.
    • Use and understanding of how ERP / MRP systems work.
    • Professional verbal and written communication to enhance supplier performance.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Four-year degree

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 5 years of buying experience demonstrated success in the following: capability in utilizing a formal ERP system for the planning, scheduling, and maintenance of the complete business environment; capability to apply "Lean Manufacturing" techniques to the manufacturing operation; success in the identification and implementation of cost reduction through cross-functional teaming. Foreign country purchasing is preferred.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: APICS or related certification preferred but not required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. Position may require travel up to 10% of time depending on assigned projects. Employee is able to work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Employee’s work environment is a typical office environment, it may include typical warehouse environment on occasion. The warehouse location is subject to loud noise, various temperatures, and workplace hazards. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Basic PPE is required during work hours where access to the warehouse is needed, safety glasses, gloves, and steel toe boots.
