    SUMMARY – BASIC FUNCTION OF THE ROLE

    This individual is the engineering connection between the conceptual innovation process and the kickoff of the new product development process. Will need to understand the high level customer needs and problems to be solved, research existing bodies of knowledge, identify technical gaps and hurdles to overcome, design and evaluate multiple hydraulic and mechanical architectures and utilize data driven decision making to select the optimum architecture. Once feasibility is demonstrated, this individual will transition the architecture to the new product development execution team for detailed design and implementation.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Collaborate with the innovation team to develop novel hydraulic and mechanical system architecture alternatives that satisfy marketing requirements and demonstrate technical feasibility.
    2. Analyze competitive product, current Enerpac designs and adjacent industry approaches to design solutions to understand how the engineer problem is being solved today.
    3. Generate multiple distinctly creative design approaches to new architectural designs.
    4. Exercise advanced analytical and predictive techniques to assess feasibility of hydraulic and mechanical systems quickly, reducing the need for physical prototypes.
    5. Utilize data driven decision making processes to select and recommend the optimum architecture that balances all key project requirements and minimizes tradeoffs.
    6. Complete engineering requirements to support successful and on-time phase 0 gate methodology exit.
    7. Effectively transition system architecture to product delivery team for full sub-system design, validation, and implementation.
    8. Continuously advance the state of technology in Enerpac products, engineering standards, materials, and systems.
    9. Analyze and evaluate test data, prepare recommendations and participate in consultations to optimize system architecture.
    10. Prepare CAD models and drawings for production of prototypes meeting the standards set by sound engineering principles, project goals and company needs. 
    11. Consult with Manufacturing Engineering to understand the most efficient methods of manufacture and assembly.

     

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES - identify the competencies that are most critical for success in the role

    1. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects independently in a team environment.
    2. Proficient organizational skills, written and oral communications and professional abilities.
    3. Computer skills: Microsoft Office and Creo (or equivalent) capability required. ANSYS, CFD/AMEsim, generative design and/or Creo Simulate knowledge desired.
    4. Understanding of mechanical components with ability to apply knowledge to broad range product design.
    5. Understanding of multiple manufacturing processes including molded metal and plastic parts, machined components, welded assemblies and additive manufacturing.
    6. Knowledge of electromechanical controls.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Master’s Degree in Engineering is a plus.

    1. At least seven years of broad engineering experience.
    2. Direct experience developing creative engineering architectural alternatives and optimizing design selection when many requirements and design details are not yet solidified.
    3. Experience understanding a wide variety of requirements and selecting the highest priority for demonstrating feasibility.
    4. Expertise in Hydraulic and mechanical systems design. Understanding and experience with micro-hydraulics is a plus.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations. Employee will need manual (hand) dexterity to assemble/repair hydraulic equipment and be able to safely and comfortably use manual and power tools. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee is able to work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Employee will work in a temperature controlled office setting. Employee will also be occasionally in an Engineering Lab and in a manufacturing environment. Employee may work near moving mechanical parts, may be exposed to electrical shock and vibration, and will be exposed to mineral based hydraulic oils, lubricants. Employee will be exposed to low levels of noise in the office and elevated levels of noise in the Engineering lab and on the plant floor.
