Job Summary
Own and manage customer test programs from quoting through execution, reporting, and invoicing. Ensure programs meet timelines, technical scope, budgets, and quality standards while maintaining strong client relationships. Day-to-day planning and execution of materials testing programs. Deliver timely, accurate testing and analysis of customer-supplied materials while advocating for clients and driving service improvements.
Responsibilities Project Management
- Research and develop quotations in response to incoming proposals.
- Produce detailed internal work instructions for technicians and machinists.
- Lead technical problem-solving and develop solutions for testing challenges.
- Evaluate processes for correctness, identify risk mitigation opportunities, and create contingency plans.
- Utilize data collection systems; develop automatic data processing tools and graphical reports.
- Compile, analyze, and report test data (ensuring accuracy and continuity) into databases and formal reports.
- Manage project finances: review contracts, set budgets, handle invoicing, and provide fiscal summaries/status updates.
- Develop deep expertise in at least one major service area.
- Own and drive process improvement initiatives to enhance service value.
Customer Relationships & Communications
- Lead client meetings and demonstrate working knowledge of company capabilities.
- Build and strengthen relationships with multiple stakeholders (materials/process engineers, program managers, buyers).
- Establish mutual expectations for cost, scope, milestones, and communication plans.
- Advocate for clients and gather insights to evolve services to meet evolving needs.
General
- Routinely engage with technicians on testing equipment to maintain knowledge of specifications, material attributes, methods, and best lab practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field
- 3–5 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and CAD software
- Strong project/program management skills, including managing multiple projects, timelines, budgets, and customer communications.
- Technical aptitude and ability to learn/apply ASTM specifications and metals/materials knowledge.
- Excellent communication skills, including managing difficult customer conversations.
- Ability to lead discussions requiring specialized knowledge.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong initiative, integrity, self-accountability, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Team player willing to participate in peer training and knowledge sharing.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience in a test house, aerospace, foundry, or forge environment.
- Direct metals/materials testing or analysis experience
- Some modeling/CAD experience beyond basics.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $85,000 – $95,000
- ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan): Additional annual contribution, historically ~10% of salary.
