Engineering Administrator - Engineering Support & Purchasing
Location: Troy, MI
Ever wanted a job where a trip to the junkyard counts as research? Our client, an established automotive parts supplier, is looking for an Engineering Administrator to keep its plastics engineering team organized, supplied and moving. You'll be the go-to person for 3D data, part lists, purchase orders and sample parts, plus the one who makes sure the team actually gets together once in a while.
What you'll do
- Transfer 3D engineering data and keep documentation organized, secure and easy to find
- Review customer engineering change information and route it to the right people
- Check the weekly part number list for new arrivals and discontinued parts
- Prepare purchase order requests and keep administrative paperwork moving
- Order and pick up sample and benchmark parts from dealerships and salvage yards (yes, junkyard runs count as work)
- Package and ship samples, and keep the storage area clean, organized and inventoried
- Complete workplace organization checklists with your team leader, join kaizen improvement efforts and plan team-building events
What you bring
- Hold a bachelor's degree in engineering, business or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Bring 1 to 4 years of engineering support experience
- Understand the basics of purchase orders, inventory control, shipping and document management
- Work confidently in Microsoft Office (2016 or newer)
- Handle engineering documents and 3D data carefully and responsibly
- Meet deadlines reliably with strong organization, scheduling, problem-solving and attention to detail
- Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers and outside customers, including some negotiation
Good to know
This is an office role, so you'll spend most of your day seated, with occasional standing, walking and reaching, plus the odd outing to pick up sample parts. You may lift up to 25 pounds now and then, which is still lighter than most inboxes on a Monday morning.
