    TEAM OR FUNCTION OVERVIEW

    A GAF Co-Op is a chance for you to learn about your chosen field in a real manufacturing work environment with experienced GAF professionals! You’ll be involved in high-profile projects as an integral member of our working teams.

    SUMMARY

    We offer full-time Co-Op assignments to students working toward undergraduate or graduate degrees in Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, as well as other Engineering disciplines. Each assignment lasts for a school term, and you may be invited to return to GAF for additional terms while you continue your education! During your assignment, you will have a mentor who will act as a coach to help you better understand both our company and your work responsibilities. You will receive a competitive salary and - depending on location - a temporary living allowance or relocation allowance.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Develop project scopes of work, create and assemble drawings, initiate purchase requisitions, manage contractor progress, and ensure successful project startup and completion

    • Perform raw material quality assurance activities and material performance

    • Conduct problem-solving investigations and troubleshooting to ensure the identification of root causes, countermeasures, and recurrence prevention are fully implemented

    • Support quality improvement initiatives directly or indirectly with suppliers

    • Providing technical support and analytical analysis for material issues

    • Involvement with data flow diagrams/technical diagrams

    • Each term typically culminates with a formal report-out presentation to a group of GAF leadership from multiple functional areas

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Ability to frequently work in a stationary position for long periods of time and to move about to accomplish tasks or to move from one work area to another; ability to position self to move safely over even or uneven/ irregular surfaces or terrain

    • Ability to position self to bend, pull, and reach overhead / below shoulder level routinely; ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to grasp, handle or feel objects, tools, and product samples routinely; manual dexterity to frequently operate standard office equipment and keyboards, machinery, and lab equipment

    • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps routinely; ability to work with heights occasionally

    • Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 50 lbs of products, materials, boxes, equipment, etc. occasionally

    • Ability to converse with and convey information to others frequently; ability to perceive hazards and quickly respond to sounds in a manufacturing plant and/or lab environment

    • Visual acuity (close, distance, color, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus) to view documents and computer screens and perform visual inspections

    • Ability to work in conditions including high/low temperatures, inclement weather, wind, dust, humidity, etc., routinely

    • Ability to wear and work in PPE routinely

    • Ability to work/operate machinery/equipment in a constant state of alertness routinely

    UNDER THIS ROOF, WE REQUIRE

    • Must be able to work full-time for a minimum of 6 months (January 2024 through June 2024)

    • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, such as Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, or related Engineering disciplines

    • Must have a minimum 2.8 GPA, at least sophomore standing

    • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without the need for an employer-sponsored visa

    • Problem-solving, project management, and communication skills

    • Ability to operate in a team environment

    • Computer skills in Google Suite, MS Excel, and MS Word

    • Basic knowledge of MS Visio and Auto CAD

    • Ability to generate accurate and concise technical reports

    • Depending on location, students are eligible for a living allowance or relocation allowance

    • Students who perform well and wish to return for a second Co-Op term receive top consideration for another Co-Op placement

    • Students who are hired full-time are eligible for a generous educational assistance program of up to $8,000 per year, plus GAF offers up to $20,000 of tuition reimbursement for the semester completed prior to full-time hire for those who completed 2 or more GAF Co-Op terms!
