    Engineering Manager / Director

    About the Role

    The Engineering Manager / Director provides strategic leadership and direction for the engineering department, overseeing the full product lifecycle from research and development through manufacturing integration and continuous improvement. This role drives innovation in industrial automation and electromechanical systems, improves engineering workflows, and manages departmental budgets to support long-term business objectives and product quality.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership

    • Define and execute the engineering roadmap aligned with long-term business goals

    • Lead technical initiatives that support innovation, performance, and scalability

    Operational Excellence

    • Standardize engineering processes, including PLM systems, CAD standards, and documentation

    • Improve speed-to-market, reliability, and overall product quality

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Manufacturing to translate customer needs into technical requirements and profitable products

    P&L and Budget Management

    • Develop and manage the annual engineering budget, including R&D investments, CapEx, and staffing

    Talent Development

    • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent

    • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement

    Global Integration

    • Coordinate with international engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure design consistency and supply chain efficiency

    Quality and Compliance

    • Ensure products meet all applicable global safety and regulatory standards (UL, ETL, NEC)

    • Oversee auditing and maintenance of engineering work instructions and documentation

    Technical Oversight

    • Provide architectural guidance for controls software, embedded systems, and electrical panel designs

    • Support high-level technical decision-making without daily hands-on coding

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Software) required

    • Master’s degree or MBA strongly preferred

    Experience

    • 10+ years of engineering experience

    • 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership role (Manager or Director level)

    Industry Expertise

    • Experience in industrial automation, car wash systems, or complex electromechanical manufacturing

    Technical Knowledge

    • High-level understanding of C programming, Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), and RLL programming

    • Experience with 508A panel shop operations and large-scale electrical layouts

    Business and Systems Acumen

    • Proficiency with SAP or similar ERP systems for resource planning and project tracking

    Regulatory Expertise

    • Strong knowledge of ETL and UL certification processes

    • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
