The Engineering Manager will play a key leadership role in overseeing the safe, code-compliant design of complex capital equipment systems, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to scope. This individual will set engineering standards, guide the development of custom-engineered-to-order solutions, and build a high-performance team through lean practices and coaching.
Responsibilities
Build and lead a responsive engineering team from order receipt through commissioning.
Develop and maintain equipment, component, and design standards while evaluating emerging technologies.
Drive lean/value engineering practices to optimize cost, performance, and manufacturability.
Standardize components and systems to streamline design cycles and improve efficiency.
Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, operations, and supply chain to improve throughput and reduce lead times.
Manage budgets, capital-expenditure requests, and resource allocation.
Establish KPIs and business systems that align engineering performance with company goals.
Mentor and develop a cross-trained, high-performance engineering team.
Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with ASME, UL, NFPA, ISO 9001, and internal quality standards.
Own engineering documentation (P&IDs, CAD models, BOMs, manuals) with rigorous revision control and ERP/PLM integration.
Manage external suppliers and engineering partners to ensure quality and compliance.
Support proposals with technical expertise and cost estimates during pre-sales activities.
Champion lean tools and document best practices to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering field.
5+ years of progressive engineering experience in capital-equipment design, with at least 3 years in an engineered-to-order environment.
Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and process design; exposure to combustion and wastewater treatment.
At least 2 years leading a multidiscipline engineering team.
Experience supporting field service and customer technical support.
Proven track record implementing lean engineering, product standardization, and cost-reduction initiatives.
Familiarity with ASME, AWS, UL, NSF, NEC, NFPA, and IEC standards.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
