  • Responsibilities

    The Manager, R&D, Electrical Engineering directs and guides the electrical activities of electro-

    mechanical systems and equipment design function. Establish a team of strong individuals who

    contribute to cross-functional project(s) as engineering experts.

     

    This leader works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of

    organizational objectives. He/she implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques,

    and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. They are responsible for establishing and assuring

    adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, quality and performance requirements. This individual

    demonstrates independent judgement and works on significant and unique issues where analysis of

    situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. They create formal networks involving

    coordination among groups.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Builds a high level of understanding of our products and their use in clinical practice to guide the design, development and testing of our next generation products as well as sustainment of our current products.
    • Provides consistent, dependable guidance and mentoring to promote learning, development, and knowledge transfer.
    •  Accountable for root cause analysis and proper solution development for design issues, through the application of engineering principles, analysis, and empirical methods.
    • Participates in the development of team goals, priorities and budgets and is accountable for achieving P&L objectives. Translates divisional goals and priorities into team goals and priorities.
    •  Builds a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Responsible for translating design objectives into an acceptable program of appropriate engineering personnel, schedules, specifications, and resources. Maintain proper prioritization of workload of team members while understanding the impact of project to the organization and portfolio.
    • Responsible for communicating the purpose, direction and strategic importance of organizational goals, setting clear expectations and objectives, while working with leadership to improve individual and team engagement.
    • Provides leadership to aide in development/maintenance of project plans and effectively deliver all work products in accordance with appropriate engineering processes and to acceptable quality standards.
    • Engage in cross functional collaboration to develop interdepartmental processes to satisfy the greater needs of company from design and engineering perspectives.
    •  Standardize policies, procedures, processes, and standards incorporating internal and industry best practices for electrical engineering and where possible the broader R&&D organization to ensure highest quality product and efficient project execution.
    • Accountable for the creation, review, correction, enhancement of drawings, specifications, and documentation to meet or exceed internal and external requirements.
    • Must maintain project and documentation control and ensure that all engineering change orders, safety, functional and third-party requirements are captured.
    • Accountable for identification, diagnosis, prioritization, and correction of technical issues. Implement and track solid corrective actions to reduce defects and failures or optimize and streamline processes. Ensures on time delivery of work products.
    •  Ensures the team is providing regular communication and updates on success factors such as progress, schedule, budget, project risks and resource or needs/gaps.
    • Establish collaborative relationships with all stakeholders within the division and create links with experts within the company network and outside. Lead development of interdepartmental relationships and processes to satisfy the greater needs
    • Responsible for recruiting, leading, and developing team members. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training; planning, assigning, and directing work; mentoring; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, driving engagement, and resolving problems.
    • Establish career planning and annual objectives for all team members.
    • Lead the performance management process to provide feedback, recognize high performance and provide professional development opportunities.
    • Grows professional and technical knowledge with an emphasis on driving innovative solutions to solving problems and innovative product development.
    • Champions opportunities for continuous improvement and investigate and then adopt processes, tools, and methodologies.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
    • 8+ years’ experience in electrical engineering (5+ with a Master’s, 3+ with PhD), ideally within the medical device or regulated industry.
    •  Demonstrated success leading and developing engineering teams, including recruiting, mentoring, and performance management.
    • Strong technical background in circuit design, PCB layout, power systems, compliance, and engineering documentation standards.
    •  Experience with electro-mechanical systems, machine design, and medical device quality systems.
    •  Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FDA, ISO) and Design for Compliance, Cost, Reliability, Serviceability, and Manufacture.
    • Proficiency with CAE/CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, LabView, Agile), GD&T, and 2D/3D file formats.
    • High business acumen, intellectual agility, and ability to distill complex information into actionable steps.
    • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Experience in x-ray generation, imaging, or mammography is a plus.

     

    Must follow all applicable FDA regulations and ISO requirements.
