OPENING FOR ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
There is an opening in the Allegany County Department of Public Works for a full-time Engineering Technician.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS : This is responsible technical work involving the application of standard civil engineering practices to support a variety of highway and related construction projects from site data acquisition to project completion. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Public Works, Deputy Superintendent, County Engineer, or Senior Engineering Technician. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES :
FULL PERFORMANCES, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Good knowledge of Mathematics, working knowledge of engineering practices as applied to highway construction; ability to use engineering instruments and mathematical tables; ability to interpret maps, engineering drawings, and specifications; ability to carry out oral and written directions; familiarity with PC based engineering tools such as CADD, spreadsheets, and databases; aptitude for engineering work; initiative; resourcefulness; accuracy; dependability; and good judgment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Either:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Survey Technology or closely related field; or
Successful completion of sixty (60) credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university towards a degree in the appropriate related field as defied in (a); or
Successful completion of thirty (30) credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university towards a degree in the appropriate related field as defined in (a) and two (2) years of responsible experience that has included CADD experience in sub-professional civil engineering, surveying, construction, or closely related area.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of appropriate level driver's license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout the time of service in this classification.
