Pay: $45.00 per hour.

Place of performance : VA Medical Center, Albuquerque, NM.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 40 hours per week normally between the hours 8:00 am-4:30pm with a 30-minute, unpaid lunch break.
Description of duties:
- Development and Planning: Determines requirements, reconnaissance, location, and prepares designs, specifications and estimates. Applies a broad knowledge of methods, precedents, and standards to significantly diverse and intense work complexities.
- Work complexities require not only adaptation or modification of precedents but a versatile and innovative approach to solve problems where serious conflicts exist between management requirements and engineering principles.
- Performs or directs surveys and investigations to establish baseline data necessary to initiate design. Evaluates baseline data and incorporate salient factors into design considerations and solutions.
- Evaluates design objectives, performs complex technical calculations, identifies most economical and efficient procedures for project design and performance considering all influences.
- Professional Engineering/Architectural Advice: Provides professional advice to peers, subordinates or non-professional administrators or managers.
- Reviews or directs the review of plans, specifications, and analyses of designs as submitted by subordinate engineers.
- Provides professional advice to improve such plans, specifications and analyses.
- Directs necessary changes and furnishes assistance required. Advises subordinate personnel on methods and procedures to be used in special studies on highly complex projects.
- Provides professional oversite and/or project management of construction or maintenance efforts.
- Construction, Maintenance & Project Administration Work: Performs scheduling and layout of operations, and inspection and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction. Plans specific objectives for the program, including required innovations and improvisations.
- Prepares detailed cost estimates for use in obtaining project funding and bid evaluation.
- Prepares correspondence, technical reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports and schedules as required to complete project assignments.
- Consults with contractor personnel to resolve difficult and complex unforeseen problems and latent conditions developing during construction.
- Prepares sketches or changes drawings and specifications solving the problem and incorporates these documents into the contract performance documents.
- Reviews and evaluates shop drawings, samples and materials certifications submitted by contractor for contract and performance requirements, recommended approval reject or receipt.
- Performs In-House Design and AE Design Management: Develops in-house designs, providing drawings, specifications, detailed cost estimates, manufacture cut sheets and other construction documents that are fully compliant with building codes and safety standards.
- Establish design criteria for AE firms.
- Prepares AE construct scope of work detailing specific design and construction objectives.
- Prepares correspondence, technical reports, fact sheets, status reports and schedules as required to complete project assignments.
- Establishes VA design and construction standards and ensures AE and/or contractor adherence with those standards. Over sees, directs, reviews, approves and/or rejects AE design deliverables.
- Directs AE in preparation of change order documents.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years General Engineer experience.
- Must be familiar with patient Centered Care Culture in healthcare.
- Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering and/or construction management.
- Must have knowledge of healthcare design and understanding of fire codes, building codes, barrier free codes, system, components, cleaning and maintenance concepts, ergonomics and safety criteria.
- Must have the ability to review and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Preferred certification as a Professional Engineer.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access& Outlook) is required.
- Microsoft Project and Revit are beneficial but not required.
- VISTA (Veterans Health Information & Technology Architecture) use to access information in the
- Medical Center Computer System is beneficial but not required.
