  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality English Language Arts instruction to students in grades 7–12. This role includes designing and implementing engaging, standards-aligned lessons, assessing student learning, and fostering a supportive, inclusive, and academically rigorous classroom environment that develops critical reading, writing, and analytical skills.

    Key Responsibilities

    Curriculum and Instruction

    • Plan and deliver effective lessons aligned with the Arkansas English Language Arts Standards for grades 7–12.
    • Integrate writing strategies, instruction, and relevant texts to support language development and critical thinking.
    • Utilize a range of instructional methods, including technology and media, to enhance literacy and language instruction.
    • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback and adjustments.​

    Classroom Management

    • Establish and maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and respects all students.
    • Implement effective classroom management techniques to promote student engagement and discipline.

    Collaboration and Professional Development

    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary lessons and share best practices.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends and methodologies.
    • Engage with parents and guardians to communicate student progress and address concerns.

    Other Responsibilities (As Needed)

    • Supporting student recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities.
    • Write letters of recommendation for students.
    • Additional tasks as requested to support student achievement, school culture, and team collaboration.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, English Language Arts, or related field required.

    Licenses: Standard Arkansas Teaching License in English or English Language Arts 7-12,

    or eligible for licensure through reciprocity or an Alternative Licensure Program (ALP).

    Experience: Prior teaching experience at the [secondary] level preferred.

    • Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprinting and child maltreatment registry checks.
    • Ongoing participation in professional development activities as required by ADE.
    • Strong content knowledge in English; proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience teaching in a KIPP or other high-performing charter school environment preferred.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

    Compensation

    Teacher salaries will be based on the experience, degree level, and licensure per the SY 2025-26 Salary Schedule.
