    Overview of our organization Our mission at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jasper and Newton Counties is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. We are a small nonprofit organization that works with community partners and schools to identify children who would benefit from an additional layer of adult support. We work closely with a team of volunteer mentors to grow and maintain healthy mentoring relationships with the goal of defending the potential we know exists in every child. We are led by a board of directors and supported by an army of individuals, businesses, organizations, schools, and foundations in both Jasper and Newton counties.

    Position Description The primary function of this position is to create and support successful matches between adult volunteers and children. This position will also contact matches on a scheduled basis to make sure they are following Agency and National Standards. This position also requires problem solving and offering support and encouragement to all match parties.

    The individual in this role would work closely within a small team while supporting the mission across two counties. The successful candidate will possess the capacity to work independently and make vital decisions that reflect best practices while working, in-person and virtually, collaboratively with teammates, in-person and virtually, families, children, mentors, partner organizations, schools, and other community entities.

    Work Location This role requires close work within the Joplin community. The ideal candidate lives within commute of the Joplin office. This position offers a hybrid work environment.

    Salary, Status, & FTE This part-time position will begin at 20 hours/week. This non-exempt position has a beginning rate of pay of $15.00/hour.

    Benefits This part-time position is not eligible for company benefits.

    Internal Structure This position reports directly to the Executive Director who reports directly to the Board of Directors.

    Travel Requirements Consistent travel within Jasper and Newton Counties either via own vehicle (with valid driver’s license and current insurance coverage) or via capacity to secure alternate transportation reliably.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Completes parent/guardian/child and volunteer orientation, interviews, and assessments
    • Works with school personnel and other community agencies involved with the BBBS programs
    • Provides child/parent safety training
    • Provides pre-match training and on-going volunteer training
    • Creates culturally appropriate matches between adult volunteer and child
    • Maintain phone contact with match participants in compliance with Agency and National Standards
    • Conduct annual evaluations with match participants in compliance with Agency and National Standards
    • Provide match support to maintain and enhance match quality
      • Foster communication, set clear expectations and occasionally facilitate conflict resolution
    • Creates Youth Outcome Development Plans for all youth once matched with a mentor
    • Maintain accurate documentation of all contacts for case files
    • Tracks and reports all match data according to agency guidelines
    • Disseminate to match participants information regarding agency activities, tickets, newsletter, and donations
    • Participate in all mandatory match activities and program events
    • Attend community meetings, staff meetings and training
    • Other duties as assigned

    • Comfortable with and ability to connect with others via phone, email, and virtual meeting software.

    • Ability to pass multi-jurisdictional background screenings.
    • Ability and willingness to travel locally.

    Education and Experience

    • Must have a high school diploma/GED equivalent and meet one of the following criteria:
      • A documented bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in a field such as social work, counseling, social services, child development, or other related fields, or candidates shall be within six months of degree completion;

      • A documented associate degree or two years of higher education experience from an accredited college or university in a field such as social work, counseling, social services, child development, or other related fields; or

      • Four years of relevant work experience in related fields, such as social work, counseling, social services, child development, or other related fields

    • Valid state driver’s license.
    • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish, preferred.

    Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to stand at times.
    • Must be able to walk at times.
    • Must be able to squat or kneel at times.
    • Must be able to grasp at times.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

    Job Type: Part-time
