    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    You will take ownership of complex environmental engineering challenges within the automotive manufacturing industry. Your responsibilities will span diverse fields of environmental compliance, process optimization, and sustainability improvement. The specific tasks will depend on project objectives and your individual expertise. They may include some of the following, though not necessarily all within the same assignment:

    • Perform, validate, and document airflow and ventilation calculations for industrial manufacturing facilities (paint shops, assembly, logistics, utilities).
    • Design, assess, and optimize wastewater treatment and discharge systems in compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure compliance with regional regulations (e.g. South Carolina DHEC, EPA), and applicable U.S. federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
    • Support permitting activities, including air permits, wastewater permits, stormwater (NPDES), and hazardous waste management.
    • Lead and support environmental impact assessments and risk evaluations for new facilities, expansions, and process changes.
    • Interface with the customer's stakeholders (engineering, EHS, production, construction) and external authorities, and suppliers.
    • Support plant launches, expansions, and process industrialization from an environmental compliance perspective.
    • Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
    • Develop and implement environmental mitigation strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Support sustainability and ESG initiatives, including emissions reduction, water efficiency, and waste minimization.

    WHO YOU ARE

    • You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
    • You have Professional certification or licensure (e.g., PE, or equivalent environmental engineering certification).
    • Proven experience with airflow modeling, ventilation design, and emissions calculations in an industrial environment.
    • Strong expertise in wastewater management, including treatment systems, discharge compliance, and monitoring.
    • In-depth knowledge of e.g. South Carolina environmental law (DHEC) and/or U.S. federal environmental regulations (EPA).
    • Experience in automotive OEM environments or Tier 1 supplier operation and/or swith automotive or large-scale manufacturing facilities.
    • Ability to interpret technical standards, regulations, and permitting requirements.
    • Fluent in English; German language skills are a plus.
    • You are comfortable with extensive travel (up to 100% of your working time), typically Monday through Friday, depending on client and project needs.
    • You are legally authorized to work in the U.S.

    Additional Qualifications

    • Familiarity with German OEM standards and international environmental requirements.
    • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
    • Experience supporting new plant launches or major facility expansions.
    • Understanding of hazardous materials, waste classification, and chemical management.
    • Proficiency in environmental calculation tools, modeling software, and reporting systems.
    • Strong project management and cross-functional communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, international, and compliance-driven environment.
    • You demonstrate hands-on experience with AI-driven tools and data analytics for process optimization or decision-making.
    • You show proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with digital tools.
    • You are self-motivated and driven with entrepreneurial spirit.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well spoken with powerful presentation skills, especially when interacting with customers.
    • You are characterized by a precise, independent, and structured way of working in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
    • You think ‘outside of the box' to create solutions when none exist.
    • With an agile mindset you are not afraid of diving into uncharted waters.
    • Strong conflict resolution skills help you manage, mitigate, and resolve conflicts.
