    Overview:

Our client is one of the largest and most well known pulp and paper mill in Maine. The Somerset Mill is an integrated pulp and paper mill, producing over 850,000 annual metric tons of coated paper and food service board, located on over 2,500 acres on the Kennebec River

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate the ISO 14001 certification and environmental management system to ensure compliance with all regulations and achievement of continuous improvement with regard to environmental performance of the mill.
    • Coordinate completion of projects involving implementation of new local, state or federal environmental regulations and new or renewed environmental permits.
    • Supervise the development and implementation of effective training programs designed to ensure a high level of knowledge and understanding among all employees on environmental job requirements.
    • Supervise and coordinate completion of technical projects directed toward reducing pollution using proven pollution prevention practices.
    • Maintain contacts with the Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and any other federal, state & local agencies as needed to stay abreast of changing rules and regulations and to facilitate and support a good working relationship.
    • Review environmental laws and regulations, provide interpretation to mill management, operating departments and line workforce and develop specific activities to achieve and maintain compliance.
    • Maintain daily awareness of mill environmental performance through review of key measures and ensure that assistance is provided by the Environmental Department staff to correct any non-compliance or performance problems. Communicate mill environmental performance.
    • Survey mill operating departments periodically to surface environmental department performance gaps and to gauge customer satisfaction.

    Entry requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree (Chemical or Environmental Engineering preferred) or equivalent work experience

      $150,000 per year
