Job Summary: Performs routine duties for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe and pristine environment in all areas of the facility in accordance with UPSI quality standards. The Housekeeper assumes other responsibilities to facilitate a safe and effective operation of the facility and patient services. ****
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares the procedure room for cleanliness before case carts, supplies, equipment, and instruments are brought into the room.
- Damp dusts all horizontal surfaces including furniture, lights, booms, and equipment using a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with a facility-approved detergent/disinfectant before the first scheduled case of the day.
- Cleans equipment brought from areas outside the restricted area before bringing them into the procedure room.
- Assesses the perioperative environment frequently for cleanliness.
- Takes actions to implement cleaning and disinfection procedures when needed in collaboration with other surgical and environmental services personnel.
- Changes reusable string and microfiber mops and cleaning cloths are after each use.
- Takes measures to prevent vermin infestation of the environment (eg, not leaving food out in lounges, keeping doors and windows closed).
- Cleans procedure rooms after each surgical or invasive procedure and ensures that properly prepared, facility-approved disinfectants are used.
- Identifies all items to be cleaned between cases (eg, all surfaces of OR procedure bed, mattresses, positioning devices, tourniquet cuffs, blood pressure cuffs, transport vehicles, bins, kick buckets, work surfaces).
- Ensures that contaminated laundry is disposed of appropriately after the procedure is completed.
- Handles contaminated disposable and reusable items safely and according to facility policies and state and federal regulations.
- Identifies noninfectious disposable items and ensures that they are disposed of in appropriate receptacles.
- Implements correct daily terminal cleaning processes to include: unused rooms, wet-vacuuming of floors, sub sterile areas, hallways and floors, scrub and utility areas, storage areas, and disassembly and cleaning of the cleaning equipment.
- Demonstrates weekly or monthly cleaning (eg, heating and air conditioning vents, sterilizers and loading carts, clean and soiled utility rooms, walls and ceilings, unrestricted areas, ventilation ducts, refrigerators and ice machines, scrub sinks).
- Adheres to blood borne pathogen standards and standard precautions to include the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (eg, gloves, masks, eye protection, face shields) when cleaning the room and equipment and when handling any potentially infectious materials (eg, disposing of liquid waste).
- Performs hand hygiene when gloves are removed and as soon as possible when hands are soiled.
- Demonstrates appropriate cleaning and disinfection methods when caring for patients infected or colonized with drug-resistant pathogens (eg, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, Mycobacterium tuberculosis) or gram-negative bacteria.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Current CPR.
- 1+ years of experience in healthcare Environmental Services/Housekeeping
Pay Range: $18.00 - $22.00/hr **** (Wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.)
