Job Overview
We are seeking an Environmental Technician to support environmental management, compliance, and conservation efforts within the Growth Management department.
This role is responsible for assisting with environmental inspections, reviewing development activities for regulatory compliance, and supporting habitat conservation initiatives, including marine turtle protection. The Environmental Technician will conduct fieldwork, maintain records, communicate with property owners and stakeholders, and ensure adherence to local environmental regulations and codes.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working outdoors, and committed to environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in environmental services, code enforcement, construction inspection, or a related field
- Experience conducting field inspections and documenting findings
- Experience working with environmental regulations, land development, or compliance processes
- Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including nighttime operations
- Experience interacting with the public and providing guidance on compliance issues
- Basic computer skills and ability to maintain records and databases
- Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to operate work vehicles
- Ability to operate or learn to operate an all-terrain vehicle
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience Preferences
- Experience with habitat conservation, wildlife protection, or environmental permitting
- Experience reviewing development permits or land use applications
- Familiarity with erosion control, tree protection, and land development regulations
- Experience working in government, municipal, or regulatory environments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including nighttime shifts during turtle nesting season
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 lbs
- Ability to operate vehicles and all-terrain vehicles safely
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent

- Coursework or certifications in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field
