    Job Description

    This position will positively conduct activities and services of the Accounting Department under the direction of the Controller. The role of The Accountant is to provide accurate and timely financial information to aid the Management Team in making decisions to establish a strong, competitive and profitable cooperative. The Accountant will conduct daily tasks in a manner that meets all Cooperative policies, and manage daily responsibilities in accordance with established goals, plans, procedures and budgets as directed by the Controller.

    Accountant Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Ensure compliance with all Equity policies.
    2. Perform various accounting tasks including support of monthly financial statements.
    3. Daily processes for Cash Management Products. * Processing daily patron direct deposit payments and depositing of livestock payments. * Process wire and checking account transfers.
    4. Perform journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
    5. Maintain fixed asset records and calculate depreciation.
    6. Provide support via phone and email to patrons and company personnel at all Equity locations.
    7. Prepare Associations’ Financial Statements and Tax returns.
    8. Process data through various software, including SAGE accounting software, proprietary livestock marketing software, and Microsoft Office suite.
    9. Compile reports/summaries on activity areas as directed by management.
    10. Function in accordance with GAAP standards, procedures and applicable laws.
    11. Oversee and process the accounting of Private Treaty Transactions for field representatives and Equity markets.
    12. Monitor the recording of cattle contracts, scheduling, and completion of payouts.
    13. Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
    14. Perform other related duties, as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
    • 2-5 years experience in an equivalent position or suitable alternative is preferred.
    • Intermediate computer skills including MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and other related accounting and/or reporting writing software applications.
    • Understanding of cooperative accounting regulations, preferred not required.
    • Knowledge of livestock industry, preferred not required.
    • Organization skills and attention to detail is required.
    • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Willingness to communicate responsively via various means of phone, email, and in-person.
    • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and time management.
