    About the Job

    We are looking for biology or chemistry graduates to help support in a laboratory. The position is in Henderson, NC. The position is an entry level position responsible for providing support in the clinical laboratory to process molecular testing. The tests involve DNA extraction, qPCR, and data analysis. The Lab Tech will be trained to utilize the LIMS system to process patient data and results. The position will focus on SARS-CoV-2 (COVID19) patient testing. The Lab Tech must be comfortable working with infectious materials and have experience handling biohazardous materials. Proficiency with wet lab activities, computers, robotics, and sample tracking are critical to success.

    A Day in the Life

    We will train you to perform the following:

    · Extracting DNA from Respiratory Samples

    · Performing quality control on DNA samples

    · Performing qPCR preparation and instrument runs

    · qPCR Data analysis

    · Monitoring positive and negative controls as part of quality control measures

    · Building sample batches within LIMS and resulting and verifying data

    · Maintaining inventory of reagents

    · Communicating with genomics supervisor on status of samples/batches

    · Instrument maintenance and laboratory cleaning

    · Accessioning samples if necessary

    · Working with genomics supervisor and accomplishing necessary assigned duties as needed

    Requirements

    What we are looking for

    · Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or an associate degree in a relevant field; biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or genetics.

    · Experience in clinical diagnostics or molecular biology laboratory wet work is preferred but not required (1 to 2 years)

    · Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of molecular biology, specifically DNA extraction and qPCR a plus but not required

    · Specialized knowledge of and ability to use a full range of standard technical equipment, complex scientific apparatus, and automated techniques of analysis;

    · Extensive knowledge of laboratory safety practices and principles;

    · Aware of state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies concerning the program area (i.e. CLIA and CAP);

    · Ability to meet requirements for personnel certification as a technologist pursuant to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA);

    · Ability to effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing and maintain productive working relationships;

    · Ability to satisfactorily participate in proficiency testing programs and recognize QA problems;

    · Ability to compile, analyze, evaluate, and prepare laboratory reports.

    · Strong communication skills

    · Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is a plus but not required

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $20.00 to $25.00 /hour
