Attorney – Estate Planning & Elder Law Drafting, Client Signings & Path to Client-Facing Associate Attorney

    (Training Provided)

    Job Summary

Since 2017, Safe Harbor Law Firm has established itself as a premier estate planning and elder law firm serving Southwest Florida families. Our reputation is built on referral relationships, outstanding client service, expert legal advice, and clear solutions that protect our clients’ legacies. Our mission is to educate and assist clients to protect their assets and put their estate plan in place—empowering families for generations.

We are seeking a licensed attorney to join our Estate Planning & Elder Law team in a drafting- and signing-focused role, with training provided for candidates who may be new to this practice area. This position is ideal for an attorney who values structure, mentorship, and meaningful client interaction—and who wants to deliberately build toward a long-term, client-facing estate planning career.

This is a client-facing role. In addition to drafting, the attorney will participate in estate plan signing meetings and must be able to connect with, empathize with, and confidently guide clients through deeply personal and often emotional decisions.

This role is based primarily in our Naples office, with the expectation of floating to our Bonita Springs office one to two days per week to support client signing meetings and team collaboration. The commute between offices is approximately 15 minutes.

    Position Summary

This role supports the Firm’s mission by drafting estate planning documents, participating in client signing meetings, and working within established systems and processes to ensure clarity, accuracy, and an exceptional client experience.

Attorneys in this position work closely with experienced estate planning attorneys, drafting & signing paralegals, and the client services team to develop strong technical skills, execution standards, and client communication practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    Estate Planning Drafting

    • Draft wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, health care documents, and deeds using Firm-approved templates and drafting systems

    • Prepare drafts that are accurate, complete, and ready for internal attorney review

    • Incorporate feedback efficiently and move documents toward finalization

    Client-Facing Signing Meetings

    • Participate in estate planning signing meetings, including will plan signings, revocable trust signings, and irrevocable trust signings

    • Guide clients through the signing process in a clear, calm, and professional manner

    • Answer client questions related to document execution within scope and level of training

    • Demonstrate empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence, particularly when working with elderly clients or families navigating sensitive life transitions

    • Collaborate with paralegals and staff to ensure signing meetings are organized, accurate, and completed without delays

    • Attend signing meetings in both the Naples and Bonita Springs offices as scheduled

    Workflow, Systems & Collaboration

    • Work within Firm drafting SOPs, quality controls, and file-management standards

    • Coordinate with paralegals and attorneys to manage workflow and deadlines efficiently

    • Participate in required Firm meetings, training sessions, and mentorship opportunities

    • Provide timely status updates and demonstrate accountability for assigned matters

    Career Path & Professional Growth

This position is intentionally structured as a training and development pathway toward becoming a client-facing Associate Attorney at Safe Harbor Law Firm, focused on consulting with clients and designing comprehensive estate plans.

Phase 1: Drafting, Execution & Client Signings (Foundational Stage)

    Attorneys begin by mastering:

    • Estate planning document structure and drafting, including wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, health care documents, and deeds

    • Execution standards and best practices through active participation in client signing meetings

    • Clear, compassionate communication with clients during emotionally significant moments

This phase ensures attorneys fully understand how estate plans are built, executed, and experienced by clients before moving into consult or design responsibilities.

    Phase 2: Shadowing & Co-Consulting (Development Stage)

As skills and confidence grow, attorneys may begin to:

    • Shadow experienced attorneys during Initial/Vision consultation meetings

    • Learn how client goals, family dynamics, asset structures, and long-term planning concerns are identified

    • Participate in plan design and review discussions, translating client information into tailored estate planning strategies

During this stage, attorneys develop both their technical judgment and their ability to listen deeply, empathize, and explain complex planning concepts clearly.

Phase 3: Client-Facing Associate Attorney (Consult & Design Role)

Based on demonstrated readiness, competence, and alignment with Firm values, attorneys may progress into a client-facing Associate Attorney role, where they:

    • Lead initial consultation meetings

    • Design and explain comprehensive estate plans

    • Guide families through recommendations with clarity, sensitivity, and confidence

    • Collaborate with drafting paralegals to ensure accurate execution and delivery

Advancement is deliberate and earned, based on skill, consistency, and client care—not tenure alone.

    What This Role Is Not

This role is not litigation and not a high-pressure, sales-driven attorney position. You will not be expected to generate business or advise independently before you are ready. While drafting and signing are significant components early on, this is not a dead-end role.

This position is best suited for attorneys who want to learn estate planning and elder law the right way—through structure, mentorship, and meaningful client relationships.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

    • Active Florida Bar license (or ability to obtain)

    • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail

    • Ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with clients

    • Comfort working with elderly clients and emotionally sensitive matters

    Preferred (Not Required)

    • Prior exposure to estate planning or elder law

    • Experience in client-facing meetings

    • Interest in long-term growth in a client-centered estate planning practice

    Our Culture

Safe Harbor Law Firm is a values-driven organization. We are open, curious, aware, collaborative, adaptable, and generous—with our clients and each other. We take pride in doing meaningful work, developing our people thoughtfully, and delivering an exceptional experience to every family we serve
