    Position Summary:

    The Estimator will be responsible for analyzing blueprints and project specifications to prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment. They must possess strong math skills, excellent communication abilities to work with clients and subcontractors, and proficiency in estimating software. Key responsibilities involve gathering data, performing quantity surveys, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids, and compiling the final bid documents

    The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of 2+ years of utilities, self-performing, and heavy equipment construction experience and knowledge.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Analyze project documents: Review blueprints, specifications, and contract documents to understand the full scope of the project.
    • Prepare cost estimates: Calculate the total cost by estimating the required labor, materials, and equipment.
    • Gather data: Collect data on material prices, productivity rates, and weather conditions relevant to the project.
    • Solicit and evaluate bids: Invite subcontractors to bid on different parts of the project and then analyze their proposals and scope of work to find the best fit and identify potential gaps.
    • Compile bid packages: Assemble all the necessary information into a comprehensive bid package for submission to clients.
    • Risk mitigation: Reduce the risk of the company losing money by ensuring all costs are accounted for and that the bids are accurate and competitive.
    • Maintain project documentation: Keep records of all project-related data and update cost libraries and processes.

    Required Skills:

    Technical Skills: Proficiency in using estimating software and spreadsheets, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of construction methods and processes.

    Mathematical Skills: Strong aptitude for math, including algebra, geometry, and basic arithmetic.

    Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, management, and subcontractors.

    Project Management: Ability to manage multiple assignments, pay close attention to detail, and adapt to changing project needs.

    Adaptability: Willingness to work in various conditions, including an office and a construction site, and a capacity to handle high-stress situations during bidding periods.

    Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is vital to ensure accuracy, as even small mistakes can significantly impact a project's budget.

    Time Management: The ability to manage time effectively to meet strict deadlines for proposals and estimates.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quantity survey, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
    • Certification from a recognized professional body, such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience in construction estimating.
    • Strong understanding of construction practices, materials, and cost estimating techniques.
    • Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in using industry standard software such as Oracle P6, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam Revu, Bluebeam, and ProEst.
    • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    • Proficiency in estimation software.
    • Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
    • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Compensation
    $70,000-$125,000 per year
