Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under direction of the Chief Medical Officer of Henry Ford Hospital, the Ethicist is responsible for leading and maintaining an effective hospital ethics program, working with the Ethics Committee, and managing the Ethics Consultation Service. Serves as a role model for interdisciplinary, collaborative care improvement and delivery.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in bioethics, Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD), or Doctor of Medicine with advanced graduate training/fellowship in Bioethics or Clinical Ethics
• Minimum 5 years of clinical ethics consultation experience
• Demonstrated experience with hospital Ethics Committees and ethics education delivery
• Knowledge of healthcare ethics standards, healthcare law, regulations, and accreditation requirements
• Proficiency in ethics needs assessment, ethics process models, and resource management

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES:

• Healthcare Ethics Consultation Certification (HEC-C) from American Society of Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) preferred
