    WHAT’S THE ROLE?

    We are looking for Engineering Managers to lead SRE teams at Etsy. They’ll be responsible for the core infrastructure & services behind etsy.com.

    As the Engineering Manager of an SRE team, you will be

    • Growing and empowering a globally distributed team, by giving them the confidence to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success, and enable them to become technical leaders.

    • Responsible for the team's technical strategy and roadmap in close collaboration with many engineering teams.

    • Be ready to roll up your sleeves and work through technical challenges with your team.

    • You will have the courage and experience to be frank and ambitious but humble enough to listen to others. You’ll communicate early and often, building trust and collaboration between engineers and teams across multiple countries and time zones.

    This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based.     WHAT DOES THE DAY-TO-DAY LOOK LIKE

    • Establish and lead the operational rhythm for the team (standups, retrospectives, planning, roadmaps)
    • Build, lead and mentor your team on communication (up, down, and sidewards), technical strategy, delivery, and execution
    • Work closely and collaboratively with partner teams, understand their problems, and be flexible to changes in the roadmap
    • Define methods and success metrics for both the projects in progress and future proposals.
    • Lead all aspects of people development - Mentor, Performance Reviews, Promotions, Hiring, and Retention

    QUALITIES THAT WILL HELP YOU THRIVE IN THIS ROLE ARE:

    • Significant hands-on experience as a software engineer / SRE / System Admin, preferably in a cloud environment, with the last 3+ years in technical team management.
    • Successful track record of leading teams of 5 to 8 engineers who build and support distributed systems, preferably in a cloud environment.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex technical issues accurately to technical and non-technical audiences at different levels of detail.
    • You have experience in making data-driven decisions and are flexible to course correct and iterate at scale.
    • You’ve developed strong mechanisms for organizing, tracking, and measuring tracks of technical work, and making them visible to your team.
    • You know what motivates your team and you are able to carve out the necessary space for them to do their best work.
    • You are engaged in technical decisions and discussions but you know when to defer to technical leaders around you
    • You have a clear understanding of the direction your team needs to take to achieve their goals and establish success metrics to iteratively progress towards it.
