Etsy is seeking an Engineering Manager for Etsy's Threat Response and Transactional Fraud Engineering teams. These teams aim to maintain the trust and confidence of Etsy Buyers and Sellers in our marketplace’s safety. This includes detecting and mitigating credit card fraud, collusion & merchant fraud, gift card abuse, and other monetary scams. We build and maintain controls to detect abusive behavior; integrates services across Etsy; and develops agent tooling and workflows. Fraud partners directly with an embedded Applied Machine Learning team and with many organizations at Etsy, including Trust and Safety, Payments Engineering, and Security.

The ideal candidate has experience fighting fraud in an online setting and is a creative, proven leader with excellent technical, problem-solving, and communication skills. You are inspired to take on the challenges of protecting a global marketplace!

This is a full-time position, (eventually) located in Brooklyn or SF, reporting to the Engineering Director of Trust & Safety. We are considering remote candidates based in the US for this position. Etsy offers three different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team: Flex mode for candidates who are comfortable traveling to an office location 2+ times per week, Remote mode, and Office-based mode. ABOUT THE ROLE:

• You will help fulfill the vision of the Fraud initiative with your product and business partners, and drive its technical strategy.
• You will act as a strategic lead on high-profile projects, partnering on large, often multi-functional company-wide projects.
• You will co-lead OKR creation and set KPIs that clearly define the goals and success metrics for your initiative.
• You will establish relationships with the engineering partners and stakeholders across the company to drive outcomes.
• You will mentor and grow engineers of the initiative, and cultivate a strong, values-aligned culture within the squad.
• You will attract top talent using your network, and retain your engineers through effective mentorship and career growth.

Qualifications

• You have an understanding of financial fraud, and approach fighting it from an engineering perspective through operational tools, data analysis, and the judicious use of machine learning, where applicable.
• You can work independently to define and tackle unconstrained problems, even in the context of incomplete information
• You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills for audiences from junior individual contributors to executives.
• You represent technical priorities during joint planning and prioritization with stakeholder leadership.
• You're comfortable collaborating closely with engineers, managers, and other organizations at all levels.
• You are an excellent coach and mentor of junior and senior engineers.
