Job Description

Seeking a Metallographer/Metallurgical Laboratory Technician for our metallurgical and failure analysis laboratory in the Los Angeles area. Experience in metallography, hardness/micro-hardness testing and digital photography required. Technical Associates degree preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Ability to learn and adapt to a hands-on role that includes:
  • Cutting with various saws/cutting tools. Using various tools to take apart specimens/components.
  • Mounting metal/material in epoxy, acrylic and Bakelite
  • Grinding, polishing and etching of material specimens in accordance with appropriate procedures.
  • Photo documentation skills using digital camera and stereo microscope.
  • Perform hardness and microhardness testing.
• Organize work for efficient execution according to procedures.
• Maintain work-flow process for multiple projects at a time in the laboratory.
• Interface with clients for specific laboratory needs.
• Must have interest and be willing to learn new techniques to work with special metals/materials.
• Must have basic computer skills: Microsoft word and excel, Outlook, etc.
• Must be willing to work overtime when needed.

Qualifications

• Technical Associates degree is preferred.
• Knowledge of safely handling of acids is a plus.
• Work experience with equipment operation, cutting saws, metallography, hardness/micro-hardness testing, digital photography and hands-on technical laboratory is beneficial.
• Good communication, organizational and computer skills are required.
• Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
