Job Description

The Research Scientist must demonstrate high initiative, adaptability, technical expertise, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment. The Staff Scientist will support the Assay team in project-oriented tasks including assay development, optimization, and validation of molecular laboratory techniques, including but not limited to PCR and qPCR-based methods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform targeted sequence analyses and molecular assay design
• Develop methods and execute experiments for evaluating, optimizing, validating, and verifying assay design and performance.
• Facilitate experiments in a BSL-2+ laboratory, including handling of infectious agents or specimens and performing microbial culture.
• Maintain detailed laboratory records of all procedures, data, and analyses.
• Prepare and/or review policies, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and other documentation required for laboratory and test processes.
• Exhibit excellent laboratory skills and perform experiments with meticulous attention to detail.
• Apply principles, theories, and concepts in areas of molecular biology, microbiology, and/or chemistry.
• Demonstrate problem solving skills in the planning, execution, and analyses of projects and/or experiments.
• Interpret and summarize experimental data and identify subsequent experimental steps.
• Contribute original ideas and express eagerness to learn and apply advancing concepts and technologies quickly.
• Review, interpret, and summarize experimental data and identify subsequent experimental steps.
• Organize and interpret scientific information in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to manage projects with minimal supervision, including project planning and task prioritization
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate assay-related processes and/or products onto IVD systems
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with external collaborators or contract organizations
• Provide technical support and training in areas of educational or professional knowledge to multi-disciplinary team members, including process education and constructive feedback.
• Ability to effectively train personnel on laboratory practices and procedures.
• Translate scientific findings and technical reports into plain language.
• Draft, review, and/or edit manuscripts, technical bulletins, white papers, grants, reports, etc.
• Perform timely literature reviews on project-related topics and provide relevant summaries and references.
• Comply with federal and international regulatory requirements.
• Comply with company health, safety, and environmental policies.
• Be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Be a team player and collaborator with a positive attitude.
• Ability to be proactive and self-starter with minimal to no supervision.
• Ability to interface effectively with customers, managers, subordinates, peers, subcontractors, and vendors through both oral and written communication.

Qualifications

• PhD in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or related discipline. Candidates with Master’s degrees in described disciplines and 3+ years molecular biology laboratory experience will be considered.
• Prior experience in molecular biology and microbiology techniques, such as qPCR and microbial culture, is required.
• Prior experience with assay design and sequence analysis is required.
• Prior demonstration of strong analytical and problem-solving skills is required.
• Prior demonstration of independent project management is preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and presentations
• Ability to write, edit, and proofread scientific documents is required.
• Experience with R or GraphPad is preferred.
