Job Description

Assist with food and beverage research and development for NFL clients by utilizing skills in areas such as food science, engineering, process development, food safety, data analysis, project management, regulatory compliance, innovative thinking, and team collaboration. Carry out applied product development activities, which can include benchtop experiments, pilot plant trials, formulation work, participation in internal team and external client meetings. Other activities can include work with client project stakeholders to ensure data quality and compliance of ingredient, packaging, finished product and process specifications.

FOOD SCIENCE INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING: 

• Collaborate with Research and Development team (e.g. supports pilot plant trials, prepares samples for processing, operates processing equipment and collects data)
• Execute an internal project in collaboration with NFL employees. Project will be selected based on company needs and intern’s skill set
• Participate in a day of community service
• Contribute to progress tracking and optimization
• Conduct thorough review of multiple sources of data
• Reconcile discrepant sources of data
• Facilitate issues resolution between multiple stakeholders
• Attend supplier lunch and learns
• Present final project to NFL staff

Qualifications

Basic Minimum Qualifications

• Candidates must be either Junior undergraduate students or Graduate students with less than one year remaining in their respective course of study
• Degrees preferred: Food Science and Technology (including Food Engineering, Food Safety, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry), Chemical Engineering (with Food Product emphasis) and other Life Sciences

• Is adept at using Microsoft Office Suite, which may include proficiency with Excel and other database applications
