Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced bench scientist to join our efforts in mammalian cell line engineering, protein expression and purification.  The ideal candidate will have strong molecular and cell biology experience and demonstrated ability to work independently at the bench with a variety of vector platforms and expression systems using both transient and stable modalities.  The colleague will assist in supporting the day-to-day activities for routine production and purification of protein reagents and aid in the development of recombinant cell lines for functional evaluations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Mammalian expression of recombinant gene constructs in transient and stable formats for candidate molecule screening and production
• Perform small to mid-scale protein production runs for protein purification and carry out expression characterization such as gel electrophoresis, Western Blot and FACS
• Protein purification (mAbs, therapeutic proteins, reagent proteins) by affinity or native methods
• Analytical characterization of proteins by SDS-PAGE, CGE, Western Blot, and analytical SEC
• Prepare precise technical report summaries, protocols, analysis and maintain appropriate documentation
• Maintain high scientific rigor and attention to detail in testing hypotheses and analyzing data

Qualifications

• Educational background:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in scientific discipline with emphasis in cell biology, molecular biology or related field with 1-3 years of hands on experience
• Training and demonstrated proficiency in cell biology and aseptic cell culture with a wide variety of cell types, both suspension culture and adherent
• Working knowledge in molecular biology, cloning and protein analysis techniques (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot)
• Recombinant protein expression experience in mammalian cell systems (especially HEK/CHO)
• Experience in the generation and functional assessment of recombinant cell lines expressing various target proteins (GPCRs, ion channels, etc) is a plus
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exhibiting self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
• Attention to detail and good oral and written communication skills required

Additional Information

Work environment: The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m., with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Kalamazoo, MI are encouraged to apply.
