    Job Description

    Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories, a nationally recognized laboratory, is searching for a Protein Chemisty Scientist to support our Professional Scientific Services group in Berkeley, CA.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop new assays and optimize existing assays (SEC, IEX, HIC, RP-HPLC, CE and UV/Vis/Fluorescence spectrometry) for supporting the protein therapeutic product development and manufacturing for analysis of protein content, impurity and other quality attributes in drug substance, drug product and stability samples
    • Perform GMP release and stability testing as needed, analyze and interpret results, and investigate various GMP lab events including invalid, OOS and OOT results
    • Responsible for the validation of relevant analytical methods in accordance with ICH guidelines and company procedures
    • Prepare complete and high quality internal and external reports on assay-related studies
    • Responsible for the operation, maintenance, qualification, and troubleshooting of analytical instruments including HPLC, CE, 2D-HPLC and UPLC
    • Interact with stakeholders and communicate the scientific results, issues, conclusions, and recommendations inside and outside the analytical department
    • Recommend new and innovative solutions to problems utilizing scientific creativity, independent thought and proficiency
    • Identify technical \gaps and make recommendations to management to continuously improve functional area capabilities

    IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD POSSESS:

    • A deep understanding of protein structure and property relationship which applies to the selection of appropriate methods for protein analysis
    • In-depth knowledge of advanced analytical instrumentation including HPLC, UPLC, 2D-HPLC, and CE including detection techniques such as UV/Vis, fluorescence, and mass spectroscopy
    • Proficient in the use and troubleshooting of analytical instruments and data processing
    • Strong experience in the development of HPLC/CE methods for the quantitation of protein impurity and content in complex sample matrix (e.g., containing high salt and surfactant)
    • Experience in the structural/functional identification of low level protein impurity species using mass spectrometer and other instruments is a plus
    • Must be able to follow SOPs in performance of laboratory testing to complete assigned tasks to meet timelines and ensure quality
    • Experience with GMP testing and documentation is highly desirable, but not required
    • Demonstrated ability to apply scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments
    • Ability to independently troubleshoot problems requiring original thought
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills including documentation of experiments in a lab notebook and preparation of technical reports and presentations
    • Must be able to communicate complex scientific findings and recommendations in one-on-one discussions and departmental meetings
    • Demonstrated ability to work as an independent, self-motivated, detail-oriented, result-driven and highly flexible team-player in a fast-paced working environment
    • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with internal and external clients, self motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
    • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree with 3-4 years of experience, or Master's degree with 2 years of experience in protein characterization 
    • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
