EveryDay Labs improves student outcomes through the power of behavioral science. We are partnering with school districts across the country to reduce absenteeism because we believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn every day. We reduce absenteeism through:

• A multi-channel family communication program that is backed by seven randomized controlled trials which has been proven to reduce chronic absenteeism by 10 - 15%
• A web-based platform for school and district staff that provides data insights into student absence patterns and large-scale aggregate attendance trends, as well as tools for managing family communication and interventions.

How You Can Help

As a Software Engineer at EveryDay Labs, your work will immediately improve student outcomes by helping districts across the county to reduce absenteeism and increase learning time for students who need it most. Your primary responsibilities will be building elements of our software platform. This includes:

• Maintaining our student and attendance data storage system, ensuring the system remains performant as it scales to tens of millions of records
• Building new features for attendance analytics, attendance process management, and family communications
• Automating operational and monitoring tasks to support attendance products as they scale
• Optimizing and improving AWS infrastructure
• Providing technical leadership and long-term architectural vision for our products

As an early stage startup, members of our engineering & data team have the opportunity to both contribute to existing, complex systems and help build products from the ground up, as well as have an outsized impact on our team, culture, clients and students. If you're self-motivated and a great collaborator, we want to hear from you. You'll also get to work in an environment where clean code, automated testing, constructive code reviews, collaborative whiteboarding, thoughtful design, and easy deployments are considered to be the standard operating procedure.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge in our stack (or proficiencies in closely related technologies) - including
  • Java 17+ and Dropwizard
  • PostgreSql
  • GraphQL
  • Serverless
  • Python for scripting and AWS Lambdas
  • AWS Infrastructure including:
    • Terraform
    • ECS
    • RDS/Aurora
    • SQS/SNS/Lambdas
• Minimum 5 years experience at a senior engineering level
• Enthusiasm for improving educational outcomes for students
• Strong communication skills; ability to articulately discuss requirements and design decisions with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects at the same time while paying strict attention to detail and meeting deadlines
• Comfort with ambiguity; flexibility with potential role changes as the team grows and an enthusiasm for creative problem solving
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders to achieve an objective, frequently communicating about project goals, timeline, and status
• Early stage startup engineering experience
• Experience with education or education technology
