    ABOUT EVERYTABLE

Background: In 2013 Sam Polk, a former hedge fund trader, founded a nonprofit called Feast (originally called Groceryships) to address food-related health problems in South LA, where the average income is $13,000 a year, life expectancy is 10 years lower than more affluent areas, and diseases like obesity and diabetes are alarmingly high. Feast began helping family food providers make healthy choices through nutrition education, cooking classes, free produce, and support groups.

That year Sam began hearing from Feast participants that while fresh produce was great, they often had to buy food on the go because they were juggling multiple jobs and large families. And in South LA, their only options were fast food.

Sam saw an opportunity to help families like these. So he created a model for a new company that would sell healthy food in “food deserts” like South LA at prices competitive with fast food.

Feast was built on the belief that every life is equally important. Sam wanted this core value embedded in the new company, so they called it Everytable, reflecting a mission to bring healthy, affordable food to every table in the country, with no one left out.

How it works: Everytable’s business model drastically reduces the costs of the standard restaurant model. Chefs at their central kitchen turn fresh, wholesome ingredients into delicious meals, which they sell through small, grab-and-go storefronts, smartfridge kiosks, and subscription delivery. To ensure everyone can afford them, meals are then priced according to the neighborhoods being served with approximately one third of their locations are in food deserts. This is not a subsidy model, each store is profitable and throughput is 2x Chipotle’s at max volume!

    Revenue streams:

Grab and go storefronts: 10 locations currently & expanding to 26 by 2021

    Smartfridge kiosks: 250 currently w/ target of 600 by EOY & 7800 by 2021

    Created their own RFID-enabled fridge

Subscription business: meal delivery to individual households

Grown 400% since the beginning of March

Government: meals on wheels type program

Delivering around 170k meals a week to the homeless community, the homebound elderly, and community college students

Corporate: client include Tesla, Toms, Kaiser Permanente

3-year contract with Compton College food service

Mission: At Everytable, we believe healthy food is a human right. Our team is focused on making fresh and delicious meals affordable and available for everyone, everywhere. Our journey to fundamentally change the food system and the way we eat has been featured by The NY Times, LA Times, Shark Tank, Food & Wine, Forbes, and many more. We have markets, SmartFridges, and a subscription service across Los Angeles, in communities from Compton to Crenshaw to DTLA to Brentwood and everywhere in between.

If you think a salad doesn’t need to cost $15, and if you think fast food doesn’t have to be defined as a burger and fries, then Everytable might be the place for you. Our teammates are committed to social justice, unafraid to attack challenges head-on, and eager to find solutions on a daily basis.
