    We are seeking a Senior R&D Chef to join our team in Los Angeles. This position will report to the VP of Culinary Innovation while also interacting with various levels of leadership within the organization. The Senior R&D Chef will lead the R&D Chef team, and is responsible for supporting new product development and improving existing products for our omni-channel business, inclusive of our retail stores, SmartFridge, delivery & subscription channels.

    Your Impact on the Mission:

    Manage team of R&D Chefs to achieve department and company goals inclusive of new product development, existing recipe and procedure optimization, and supporting commercialization and culinary operations training

    Develop standards, processes and tools to assist in delivering consistent culinary products

    Guide and support culinary team in the implementation and adherence of brand standards, processes & systems

    Craft unique and creative new recipes that adhere to the highest levels of food quality, consistency, nutritional parameters, and that can be achieved under high volume production conditions

    Ensure Product Briefs are executed on at the highest level, inclusive of attaining targets for nutrition, operational constraints, and any other guardrails identified

    Calculate and present ingredient and product costing and labor to ensure they meet target ranges

    Balance world-class culinary standards and techniques within a manufacturing setting and needs for a high-volume, complex operation

    Constantly work to improve product quality, and use positive influence to education and train on such standards

    Meticulously record all project work, testing parameters, and pertinent analytical information

    Conduct yield, shelf life, and performance analysis tests for all new and current ingredients under review

    Constantly seek to learn more, do better, and appreciate the need for on-going within the culinary arts, operations, and supply chain

    What You'll Bring to the Table:

    Culinary school/program graduate or 10+ years of experience in food development, R&D, food science, or related work/education combination

    Experience with product development and R&D is essential, ideally in CPG, foodservice and/or restaurant environments

    Genuine passion for cooking and a refined palate, with exceptional knowledge of world cuisines and culinary techniques. Baking & pastry knowledge is a plus.

    A deep commitment to our social mission and an interest in working in a non-traditional kitchen environment, making nutritious, delicious food designed for grab-and-go consumers.

    Exceptional organizational and project management skills

    Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, and work with a high level of autonomy

    Computer proficiency, and the ability to learn various technology platforms and systems

    Ability to take ownership of tasks and projects, displaying a consistent sense of urgency to find a solution, and diligent follow through to completion

    Experience leading direct reports, and a desire to teach and develop team members and peers

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and to balance changing priorities and pivot quickly when the business requires

    Essential Functions:

    Must be able to stand for 8-12 hours

    Regular bending/kneeling/stooping required

    Some carrying, moving and positioning of objects and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds

    Must be able to work in a fast, sometimes loud environment with varying temperatures

    Must be able to work in refrigerated conditions (41 degrees Fahrenheit)
