Ewald & Wasserman Research Consultants (E&W) is a women-owned small business located in San Francisco that focuses on social science research studies and provides project management for academic, health care, non-profit and commercial clientele in the social science and behavioral research field, including state and federal agencies. E&W offers high quality data collection and survey consulting services using multi-mode telephone, mail, in-person and web- based survey research approaches.
We are conducting a public health study in the Atlanta area in 2023 and looking for a Field Manager to oversee the logistics of the data collection. The study is one where we visit Hookah Cafes that have agreed to participate and visit them for 3 consecutive nights. Part of the job will be going to the Hookah Cafes in advance to confirm their participation and to determine the logistics of the set up for the in-person visits.
The job is expected to begin in April or May 2023 with a “pilot” study to test the systems and protocols and to train a team for the Main Study. The visits to the Hookah Cafes will be at night from approximately 8PM until 2AM, with earlier start times possible on occasion. The Field Manager would need to be available during that time period as well as during the days for set up and coordination of Hookah Café visits. An extensive paid training will be provided to learn the study protocols. You must live in or near Atlanta, GA to apply for this position.
The Field Manager at E&W Research is an on-call, non-exempt, project-based position, designed for a flexible individual with experience in public health and social science data collection, managing small teams and an adaptable and proactive work attitude. The rate of pay is $26-28/hr, depending on experience.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Assist with recruit and confirmation of Hookah Cafes to participate in the study
Coordination of team assignments for each night of data collection
Management of on-site team of Field Interviewers
Set up data collection station outside of select Hookah Cafes
Enter Cafe to post warning labels inside (prior to data collection)
Oversee administering brief survey to respondents on an iPad
Oversee administering a breathalyzer-style carbon monoxide test to participants
Answering any study-related questions
Creating daily reports and logs as needed
Maintaining all study protocols and guidelines
Perform special assignments on request
Qualifications
Experience with Field Management/ Data Collection/ Event Coordination
Flexibility to work a shift from 8PM to ~2AM, or earlier on occasion
Ability to work outside for a 5-to-6-hour shift, and travel to and from assigned locations
Schedule of Thursday – Saturday night, with other days possible
Reliable and dependable, on time for all assignments
Very comfortable working in diverse areas in Atlanta area
Background in social science, field management, psychology, sociology or public health
Outstanding people skills
Positive, can-do attitude, ability to take charge and manage multiple components
Solution-oriented troubleshooter who can adapt to unforeseen project challenges
Extremely detail-oriented nature

Terms of employment
Part-time position, approximately 4 months. Once the study begins, the hours of work would be 24-36 hours depending on scheduling and Café visits.
Pay Rate$26-28/hr, bi-weekly pay schedule via Direct Deposit, plus travel expenses between sites.
