Job Summary:
A dispatcher is responsible for the coordination of the utilization of drivers, trucks and containers to create capacity, maximize productivity and ensure prompt, courteous and efficient service to all customers.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintain delivery schedules including routing, destinations and delivery times.
Maintain contact with drivers to confirm locations, update or change routing information and answering customer questions.
Take both emergency and non-emergency calls from customers on delivery needs, delivery times, and general questions.
Schedule and coordinate retail/commercial deliveries.
Maintains database of drivers and routes and equipment inventory to be able to effectively communicate availability of all items to customers and management.
Monitors equipment roadworthiness and schedules equipment for repair as needed.
Keep up to date on local, state and federal regulations on transportation.
Obtaining all driver’s trip sheets at end of day and file appropriately.
Monitor deliveries and ensure product is delivered on time.
Assist sales representatives when scheduling loads by determining correct trucks for product/material being delivered.
Proactively plan and organize the next day’s dispatch.
Work closely with third party trucking companies and vendors.
Reconcile weights, hours and invoices to help facilitate other departments.
Professional Development:
Actively participate in Ewing’s Professional training program by using our Ewing University, Demonstration guides, assessment process and Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
Participate in regular performance reviews based on the business plan laid out by your direct manager and your IDPs.
Update personal job knowledge and skill set by participating in ongoing educational opportunities (Regional meetings, product training and any other pertinent training opportunities as decided by your manager.
Position Requirements:
Minimum two (2) years of dispatch or relevant experience required.
High school Diploma or GED.
Knowledge of DOT laws and regulations.
Must have steady/reliable work history and attendance.
Highly motivated, self-starter and goal oriented individual.
Ability to work well with others as well as independently.
Proficient with computers to include spreadsheets, documents, email, internet and typing.
Strong communication skills to include professional phone and email etiquette.
Ability to maintain a professional composure in high stress situations.
