About Amala Since 2004, the Amala Foundation has helped people reconnect with themselves, with one another, and with their communities. Our mission is to foster and sustain community-led wellbeing. As more of our lives move online, at home, in schools, and at work, Amala remains committed to creating opportunities for intentional, in-person human connection.

We train Community Specialists, facilitators who guide transformative experiences that help people of all ages cultivate self-care, communication, and relationship skills. Our programs take place in schools, workplaces, recreation and senior centers, and at our community center in South Austin.

About the Role The Executive Director (ED) provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED leads a small, dedicated team and serves as Amala’s primary representative in the community.

We are seeking a visionary, collaborative, and relational leader who is both mission-driven and results-oriented. The ideal candidate brings proven management experience, strong fundraising or business development skills, and a deep belief in the power of human connection to transform communities.

    Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management • Provide strategic leadership that aligns with Amala’s mission and long-term goals • Supervise and support two director-level staff members, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth • Nurture an inclusive organizational culture rooted in wellbeing, connection, and equity

Revenue Generation & Fundraising • Design and execute earned revenue strategies utilizing Amala’s programs and property • Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including donor cultivation, grants, and events • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, partners, and supporters

Community Engagement & Advocacy • Serve as Amala’s public spokesperson and ambassador in Central Texas • Strengthen partnerships with schools, nonprofits, businesses, and civic leaders to expand Amala’s reach and impact • Advocate for informal mental health and community-led wellbeing • Be visible in the Austin area community

Strategic Planning & Operations • Lead strategic planning and organizational development efforts • Develop and manage annual budgets to ensure financial sustainability and fiscal responsibility • Oversee systems and processes that promote efficiency, accountability, and impact

Qualifications • 3–5 years of management or executive leadership experience • Proven track record in fundraising, business development, or innovative revenue generation • Strong financial and strategic planning skills • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and public speaking abilities • Deep commitment to equity, collaboration, and community wellbeing • Familiarity with the Austin or Central Texas community is highly desirable

Why Join Amala Amala’s team is small but deeply connected. We support each other’s growth and wellbeing, not just as colleagues, but as people. We value curiosity, compassion, and collaboration, and believe meaningful change happens through authentic human relationships.

If you’re passionate about mental health, community-led initiatives, and creating spaces for diverse human connection, this is a rare opportunity to lead a well-established, respected organization into its next phase of growth.
