    The Augusta Downtown Alliance (ADA) is seeking a dynamic, community-driven leader to serve as its next Executive Director. As the public face of Augusta’s nationally accredited Main Street program, the Executive Director will spearhead efforts to foster economic vitality, preserve historic charm, and promote the heart of Augusta as a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to lead strategic downtown revitalization initiatives through Main Street America’s Four-Point Approach—Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Vitality. The ideal candidate will be a natural relationship builder, comfortable working with local businesses, volunteers, government agencies, and community stakeholders. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills are a must, along with a passion for downtown development, event planning, and community engagement. Responsibilities: • Coordinate the activity of the Augusta Downtown Alliance’s program committees, ensuring that communication among committees is well established; assist committee volunteers with implementation of work plan items. • Manage all administrative aspects of the Main Street program, including purchasing, record keeping, budget development, accounting, preparing all reports required by Main Street Maine and by the National Main Street Center, assisting with the preparation of reports to funding agencies, maintaining regular communication with the board of directors, and supervising employees or consultants. • Utilizing the Main Street program format, develop and maintain data systems to track the progress of the Augusta Downtown Alliance. These systems include economic monitoring, individual building files, photographic documentation of physical changes (Booms Tracker), and the required community investment statistics on job creation and business retention. • Fulfill reporting requirements and documentation for Maine Downtown Center’s annual accreditation process. • Develop, in conjunction with the Augusta Downtown Alliance’s board of directors, downtown strategies that utilize Main Street America’s Four Point Approach. • Become familiar with all persons and groups directly and indirectly involved in the downtown. Mindful of the roles of various downtown interest groups, assist the board of directors and committees in developing an annual action plan for implementing a downtown revitalization program focused on four areas: design/historic preservation; promotion and marketing; organization/management; and economic restructuring/development. • Develop and conduct on-going public awareness and education programs designed to enhance appreciation of the downtown’s assets and to foster an understanding of the Augusta Downtown Alliance’s goals and objectives. Use speaking engagements, media interviews, and personal appearances to keep the program in the public eye. • Assist individual property/business owners with physical improvement projects by supporting and providing information and contacts relevant to their particular project; provide advice and guidance on necessary financial mechanisms for physical improvements. • Assess the management capacity of major downtown organizations and encourage improvements in the downtown community’s ability to carry out joint activities such as promotional events, advertising, appropriate store hours, special events, business assistance, business recruitment, parking management, and so on. Provide advice and information on successful downtown management. Encourage a cooperative climate among downtown interests and local public officials. • Support and inform downtown merchant organizations and/or chamber of commerce retail committees on Augusta Downtown Alliance’s activities and goals; help coordinate joint promotional events, such as festivals or business promotions, to improve the quality and success of events and attract people to downtown; work closely with local media to ensure maximum coverage of promotional activities; encourage design excellence in all aspects of promotion in order to advance an image of quality for the downtown. • Help build strong and productive relationships with appropriate public agencies at the local and state levels. • Represent the community to important constituencies at the local, state, and national levels. Speak effectively on the program’s directions and work, mindful of the need to improve state and national economic development policies as they relate to commercial districts. Qualifications: Required knowledge, skills and abilities: • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and team building skills • Ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective, diplomatic and courteous manner • Strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently, with a flexible schedule • Experience in budget preparation and fundraising • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and Internet use, including website updating and online social marketing • Experience in planning and managing promotional events and marketing activities • Must be enthusiastic and physically capable to perform essential functions as required Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities: • Familiarity with issues relating to downtown business and property owners, public agencies and community organizations • Experience in volunteer recruitment and management • Familiarity with architectural design and historic preservation practices and resources • Knowledge of small business and economic development Compensation: $50,000 - $60,000 yearly
