    About McMillen Health:

    McMillen Health is a non-profit organization and is one of four independently operated health education centers remaining nationwide. McMillen Health is recognized as the number one resource for health education in the Northern Indiana region, reaching approximately 100,000 students annually. Our mission is to provide vital, effective preventive health education that promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being. We serve students of any age, ability and background.

    Since we opened our doors in 1981, we have grown immensely in size and capability. We provide over 250 preventative health education programs on various health topics offered either at our facility in Southeast Fort Wayne, on-site at schools or organizations within 150 miles, via live distance learning, and e-learning. McMillen Health also develops custom curricula, media, videos, and resources for other organizations.

    The Opportunity:

    The Executive Director will be a visionary leader responsible for overseeing the overall strategic direction, administration, and operations of McMillen Health. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, Associate Executive Director, staff, and community stakeholders to fulfill the organization’s mission and strengthen its position as a leader in health education. As the public representative of the organization, the Executive Director will lead key external initiatives, including building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, securing financial support, advancing the organization’s mission, and cultivating strategic partnerships. This position calls for a visionary and committed leader who can motivate and unify a diverse team in pursuit of advancing health equity and improving health outcomes for the communities we serve. This position has physical demands which include walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and moderate lifting. The Executive Director must be able to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods and have the ability to perform repetitive motion of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Specific vision abilities include the capability of viewing computer monitors for long periods. Strength requirements include the ability to lift and move heavy items, such as boxes containing books and other materials (up to 40 lbs.). This position also requires hearing within the normal range for telephone use.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Strategic Leadership:

    In collaboration with the Associate Executive Director, develop and implement a strategic vision and plan that aligns with McMillen Health’s mission and goals.

    Monitor the external environment for health outcomes data, and emerging trends, challenges and opportunities in health interventions and education.

    1. Operational & Financial Management:

    Ensure the Associate Executive Director drives efficiency and effectiveness across all programs and services.

    Uphold implementation and adherence of internal controls and procedures. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in organizational practices.

    In collaboration with the Associate Executive Director and the Director of Finance and Facilities, develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability, and accountability.

    Assist the Director of Finance and Facilities with the annual audit as needed to ensure a clean audit.

    Identify and pursue diverse funding sources, including grants, donations, and partnerships, to support organizational programs and initiatives

    Write and submit special project grants and reports

    As needed, assist the Grant Writer in writing and submitting operational and session-based grants for the organization.

    1. Fund Development:

    Continually seek new streams of revenue for the advancement of the organization.

    Establish short- and long-range goals for unrestricted and restricted funding sources.

    Work closely with the Director of Development and Marketing to support all fund development including annual giving, major gifts, special events, and sponsorships in alignment with the strategic direction set in collaboration with the Associate Executive Director.

    1. Board Relations and Governance

    Serve as the liaison between the Board of Directors and the organization, ensuring transparent and timely communication to support informed decision-making.

    Provide the Board of Directors with comprehensive updates on the organization including performance, opportunities, and challenges, equipping them with the necessary information to fulfill their governance responsibilities.

    Serve as ex-officio of committees.

    Seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for regional and national operations.

    1. Community Engagement:

    Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including community organizations, government agencies, and health care providers to enhance collaboration and outreach for contract work and programming.

    Promote McMillen Health’s mission and programs through public speaking, networking, and community engagement initiatives.

    1. Staff Leadership and Development:

    Work in close partnership with the Associate Executive Director to guide, support, and empower a dedicated team of professionals demonstrating empathy, respect, and authenticity to inspire trust and collaboration.

    Identify and support professional development opportunities for staff and facilitate training to enhance skills and performance.

    1. Program and Creative Services Development and Evaluation:

    Oversee and approve the design, implementation, and evaluation of health education programs and contracted projects to ensure alignment with community needs and organizational goals.

    Utilize data and feedback to drive program improvement and measure impact.

    Qualifications:

    Master’s degree preferred in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for education.

    Minimum of 3-5 years of senior leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably in health education or a related field.

    Proven track record of successfully managing organizational budgets, fundraising initiatives, and program development.

    Strong understanding of health education, community health issues, and the social determinants of health.

    Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.

    Ability to think strategically and analytically while being action-oriented, and results-driven.

    Work Environment:

    Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Travel is required frequently within Northeast Indiana and to conferences and speaking engagements nationwide. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

    Compensation:

    McMillen Health offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience. The current annual salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000. Annual compensation will be determined based on a review conducted by the Board of Directors.
