    Job Description

    Telemundo 48 Bay Area is looking for a dynamic and strategic newsroom leader to oversee editorial operations across broadcast and digital platforms. The ideal candidate is a passionate storyteller with sharp editorial judgment, fluency in Spanish, and a good understanding of the Hispanic community in the San Francisco Bay Area. This individual must be a collaborative and inspiring leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can drive innovation while maintaining journalistic integrity. The role includes managing daily newsgathering, as well as long-term and enterprise planning, to deliver impactful, audience-driven journalism across all platforms.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead the editorial vision and execution of daily news and digital content, ensuring compelling, accurate, and audience-first storytelling.
    • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent while fostering a culture of accountability and upholding the highest journalistic standards. ****
    • Direct newsroom operations during major breaking news events for seamless, high-impact coverage across all platforms.
    • Oversee live broadcast and streaming news productions, integrating breaking news, enterprise reporting, and innovative elements.
    • Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team, including anchors, reporters, producers, photographers, and the assignment desk, while fostering a creative and accountable culture.
    • Drive development of segments and special projects across linear, digital, and social media platforms.
    • Use analytics and audience insights to inform editorial decisions and optimize performance.
    • Champion digital-first thinking, encourage experimentation with formats, platforms, and storytelling techniques to reach and engage diverse audiences.

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Supervise editorial workflow and content quality, including newsgathering.

    • Coordinate coverage with the Assignment Desk to ensure coverage of stories in the greater Bay Area.

    • Approve rundowns and oversee execution of afternoon and evening newscasts.

    • Lead coverage of major stories and special events (e.g., elections, Olympics, World Cup).

    • Guide reporters on story development, follow-ups, and exclusive angles.

    • Review and approve reporter content for brand alignment, editorial standards, and language accuracy.

    • Ensure timely delivery of production elements.

    • Shape daily story lineups and develop future segments and interviews.

    • Collaborate with VP of News, News Director, and Assistant News Director on breaking news coverage.

    • Coordinate with NBC Bay Area (KNTV) to maximize duopoly resources.

    • Ensure compliance with NBC News policies and standards.

    • Support the station’s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program.

    Partner with Marketing on daily promotional efforts

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in newsgathering, news production and/or news operations
    • Demonstrated excellence in journalistic judgment, with the ability to write and edit compelling broadcast and digital copy.
    • A creative and solutions-oriented approach to storytelling and newsroom management.
    • Proven ability to make strategic decisions under tight deadlines and in high pressure situations.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of motivating and guiding diverse teams.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed, with a proactive mindset.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural newsroom environment.
    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
    • Fluent in Spanish

    • Firm understanding of digital media and support technologies
    • Ability to effectively motivate and coach team members
    • Working knowledge of the Bay Area market
    • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (oral and written)
    • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment to shift priorities quickly among multiple projects and do what is necessary to execute on short notice
    • Working experience in a television newsroom and within a large media company
    • Adept at social media and its applications for news content and with newsroom environment

    Additional Requirements:

    • Required On-Site : This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

    Salary range: $95,000 - $140,000 (bonus eligible)
