Systems Engineer - Remote
Remote with some occasional visits to Chantilly, VA
Duties will include support for mission operations, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, tech refresh, integration for systems, and efforts to redesign, consolidate, improve, and modernize the infrastructure. The Systems Engineer will be expected to plan and lead large complex systems maintenance projects, identify dependencies, manage resources, mitigate and manage risks, provide least-impact implementation procedures, perform analysis, coordinate with stakeholders, execute procedures, implement configurations, and create and update documentation and diagrams. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) managing and sustaining NOAA’s large complex systems (i.e., redundancy, scalable, portable, Agile)
- Propose, plan, and implement maintenance projects and solutions, including architectural improvements, new subsystems, migrations, OS upgrades, hardware upgrades, and others
- Operate and maintain systems infrastructure hardware and software
- Document configuration changes in the configuration management system
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve anomalies and operational problems in the systems’ infrastructure
- Monitor and report device health and status, resource utilization rates, uptime, outage and anomaly tracking, and threat detection/prevention
- Document problem resolution activities in the ticketing system
- Recommend and support procurements for hardware, software, and manufacturer maintenance (as needed)
- Create and maintain documents and Standard Operating Procedures
- Utilize and coordinate with software development team’s use of Java, JavaScript, SQL Server, and No SQL
- Build and support innovative microservices and Web Services (incl. SOA/SOAP/REST/XML).
Required Skills:
- 8+ years engineering experience with large complex systems (i.e., redundancy, scalable, portable, Agile)
- Demonstrated hands on experience or direct team leadership of Software teams that develop in Java, JavaScript, SQL Server, and No SQL
- Demonstrated experience building innovative microservices and Web Services (incl. SOA/SOAP/REST/XML).
- Experience utilizing Cloud Foundry for efficient building on top of Kubernetes.
- Efficiently deployed and integrated software engineered by team and updated integration/deployment scripts to improve continuous integration practices.
- In direct coordination with Stakeholders/Product Managers to identify minimum viable product requirements and clearly defined feature sets into well-scoped user stories for individual team members.
- Experience Implementing large scale test execution events while employing traditional I&T test approaches (i.e., RVTM, Meaningful Test Metrics, Test Reporting)
- Familiarity with the NASA/NOAA SE processes
- Experience in cross functional disciplines to include (RMA, SMA, Systems Security, Metrics, Trade Analysis, Mission Systems, Integrated Logistics)
- Experience in DevOps Environments
- Experience with developing NOAA/NASA SE documentation (i.e., SEMP, Test plans, Test Procedures, SSPs, milestone event planning)
- Experience with Reliability, Maintainability and Available requirements and metrics approaches.
- Requires a security clearance
Desired skills
- Federal government experience
- Familiarity with the NOAA's JPSS Program, including its mission, infrastructure, and data requirements. - Experience in the Aerospace or Satellite industry. - Experience with Agile development methodologies. - Active Security Clearance.
- 5+ years’ experience with Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- BS 10+, MS 8+, PhD 5+
