    POSITION TITLE: Estimator

    PAY STATUS: Non-exempt

    SUPERVISES: N/A

    PAY RANGE: $85,000- $200,000

    General Responsibility:

    An estimator is responsible for evaluating the costs and resources required for construction projects. They work closely with project managers, architects, and other stakeholders to provide accurate estimates, budgets, and proposals. This role involves detailed analysis, cost calculations, and a keen understanding of construction materials, methods, and regulations.

    Significant Duties:

    • Project Assessment: Evaluate project plans, specifications, and requirements to understand the scope and goals.
    • Cost Estimation: Calculate material, labor, and equipment costs, including subcontractor bids and overhead expenses.
    • Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed and competitive bid proposals for potential projects.
    • Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to obtain accurate pricing and availability of materials.
    • Cost Tracking: Monitor and update project costs throughout the construction process.
    • Contract Negotiation: Participate in negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all cost estimates adhere to local regulations and building codes.
    • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and provide recommendations for risk mitigation.
    • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project-related communications.
    • Reporting: Provide regular reports and updates to management and project teams.

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    • The ability to remain composed and effective under time-pressure situations
    • A minimum of 6-8 years of relevant commercial construction (general contractor) estimating experience in various general commercial building markets, including retail malls, entertainment/recreation, hospitality/lodging, office, and light industrial projects
    • A degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is ideal
    • Confidence in leading estimates of varying sizes and delivery methods (competitive bid, conceptual, design-build, and negotiated)
    • Extensive knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles
    • General familiarity with unit pricing for scope of work
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • The ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines
    • Excellent interpersonal, marketing, and presentation skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) Commercial Construction (GC) estimating: 6 years (Required)
