Located in downtown Nashville inside Dolly Parton's SongTeller Hotel, Dolly's Life of Many Colors Museum celebrates the extraordinary story of Dolly Parton—her music, films, philanthropy, and the values that shaped her life.
The museum offers an immersive, story-driven experience through a blend of artifacts, multimedia, and interactive exhibits. Projection, audio, lighting, and show control systems play a central role in bringing each space to life. Our technical team ensures these elements operate seamlessly so guests can remain fully engaged in the experience.
Position Summary
The Exhibits Technician role is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and upkeep of all exhibit systems throughout the museum. This includes audiovisual systems, projection, audio, lighting, media playback, interactive elements, and show control systems.
This role focuses on maintaining, monitoring, and supporting those systems to ensure consistent performance. Through daily checks, real-time troubleshooting, and ongoing system care, the technician plays a key role in delivering a seamless, high-quality guest experience.
The ideal candidate is proactive, calm under pressure, comfortable learning complex systems over time, and understands how to balance technical operations with guest experience in a public-facing environment.
What You'll Do
Exhibit Systems Operation & Troubleshooting
- Operate and monitor audiovisual systems, including projection, audio, lighting, and media playback
- Perform daily startup, shutdown, and opening/closing checks across exhibit areas
- Ensure all exhibit and show elements function as intended throughout operating hours
- Monitor system performance and respond promptly to issues
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues with AV systems, interactive exhibits, and control systems
- Support integrated AV, lighting, media playback, and show control systems operating within a networked environment
- Escalate complex issues and coordinate with vendors, integrators, manufacturers, or partners as needed
- Assist with maintaining system documentation, operational checklists, and troubleshooting records
Maintenance & Physical Upkeep
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure system reliability and performance
- Test and maintain touchscreens, sensors, and interactive components
- Complete minor repairs and adjustments to keep exhibits operational
- Maintain cleanliness, functionality, and visual consistency of exhibit spaces
- Handle specialty materials and finishes with care
System Support & Monitoring
- Support the ongoing care and operation of exhibit systems following established standards and training
- Monitor overall system health and identify potential issues before they impact the guest experience
- Assist with basic setup and testing of equipment as needed
- Support the ongoing operation of network-connected AV and control systems
- Maintain tools, equipment, and technical spaces in an organized and safe manner
- Keep clear, accurate logs of issues, repairs, and system performance
Operational Awareness
- Remain attentive to the guest experience and respond quickly to issues that impact it
- Work discreetly in public-facing spaces to minimize disruption
- Communicate clearly with team members, partners, and leadership

Qualifications
- Experience supporting AV systems, multimedia environments, integrated technical systems, or technical operations
- Comfort working with projection, audio, lighting, media playback, or show control systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to learn systems quickly
- Familiarity with integrated AV environments, networking concepts, or systems such as Q-SYS, Dante, BrightSign, DMX, ETC, or similar technologies is a plus
- Comfortable reading documentation, schematics, and system diagrams
- Experience coordinating with vendors, integrators, or manufacturer support teams is a plus
- Basic understanding of cabling, equipment handling, and safe work practices
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a guest-facing environment
- Physically able to lift up to 40–50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Schedule & Availability
- Part-time role expected to average approximately 20–25 hours per week
- Weekend availability is required
- Flexibility for special events, opening-period operations, and coverage support is strongly preferred
