The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Cake Decorator who can take a concept from sketch to stunning, consistently. You’ll own icing, stacking, carving, fondant work, and finishing for custom orders and daily case cakes—while upholding our vegan, allergen-friendly standards and a high-volume production pace.
What You’ll Do
Decorating & Production
Level, fill, stack, and crumb-coat cakes with sharp, clean finishes.
Execute smooth buttercream and fondant finishes with precision and style.
Create modern piping, florals, borders, writing, texture, stenciling, and airbrush effects.
Produce sculpted elements, 2D/3D designs, and fondant-based decorations (vegan mediums only).
Color-match and mix palettes; maintain brand aesthetics and client briefs.
Prepare fillings, icings, and mise en place for efficient service.
Design & Client Translation
Interpret design notes, sketches, and inspo photos into feasible production plans.
Suggest design adaptations that meet budget, lead time, and structural limits.
Quality, Safety & Standards
Enforce vegan/allergen-friendly protocols and prevent cross-contact.
Follow ServSafe and CO retail food code best practices.
Teamwork & Operations
Communicate order status, shortages, and risks early.
Support opening/closing, dish, and general production when needed.
What You Bring
Experience: 2–4+ years professional cake decorating in a bakery or high-volume setting (portfolio required).
Technical Skills:
Buttercream mastery; sharp edges; smooth finishes; precision writing.
Piping styles (shells, rosettes, borders, florals), palette-knife florals, texturing, stenciling.
Fondant work — covering cakes, creating clean edges, sculpted accents, toppers, and decorative elements (vegan-compatible).
Stacking/tiering, internal supports, basic carving/sculpting.
Strong color theory and design composition.
Allergen/Vegan Mindset: Comfortable working 100% plant-based with strict cross-contact controls.
Professional Traits: Reliable, calm under deadlines, great communicator, organized, and kind.
Nice to Have: ServSafe Manager/Handler, experience with edible imaging, airbrush, and sculpted cakes.
Physical & Work Requirements
Stand on feet 6–8 hours; lift up to 50 lbs; work in cold/heat; repetitive motions (piping, smoothing).
Early mornings/late finishes during peak holidays (Mother’s Day, graduations, etc.).
